‘North Colorado’ secession movement inches forward
Daily Caller ^ | Aug 20, 2013 | Greg Campbell

Voters in Weld County will vote on whether to secede from Colorado after commissioners this week unanimously agreed to put the question on November’s ballot.

Weld County, the largest of several that have been seriously discussing breaking away to form their own state, joins three other counties in putting the question to its citizens. Several others are also considering referring the measure to voters or waiting to see if citizen initiatives show support for the idea.
.
.
County leaders have also been alarmed at attempts to strengthen regulations on oil and gas developers, which are heavily invested in rural counties. And they’ve also been riled by tough new gun laws that limit the size of ammunition magazines and require universal background checks for all firearms transfers.

Yep. One Senator per land mass and one Representative per so many people but capped per square mile. The congested cities vote specifically to tax the rest of us for their gain.

” Given a free choice—that’s asking a lot, I admit—all or nearly all of Colorado would secede from Denver. “

Probably 6 counties would side with Denver out of 64.

The dems will demand Puerto Rico become a state to off set North Colorado. A new Missouri compromise. We all know how that ended.

Any state that wishes to secede is welcome to in my book. If they want to create a Balkans here, so be it. Screw em.

Based on that criteria you could form several states just on the island of Manhattan. Wyoming has less than 600K people, so we could potentially have more than 500 states. At the federal level, the Senate would essentially be a second version of the House.

I suggest Mesa County join with the others who desire a 51st State. Then we could demand a corridor be allowed so Mesa County could have free trade and travel between us and the rest of the sensible ones.Yes I agree with the post that says the US Constitution has some say—but the Colorado Constitution in our Bill of Rights provides for just such a move (see the first three sections.)Recall of the offending politicians would prove easier but both efforts ought be supported.

I’m thinking you’re right. Or else they just won’t admit the Northern Colorado Territory as a state. They’ll just leave it as a territory and take advantage of that fact to let the President appoint a territorial governor.

By the way, nice to see you! (-:

What interests are those? And if forced to choose between the interests of the state, and the interests of half a million people that need the power to solve their own problems, I'm going to side with the people.

With out regard for any problems that may cause the rest of the people in the state? Do those people have no rights here? No protections?

Updated map. Green, the question is on the ballot, yellow looks likely, blue has a chance.

Based on that criteria you could form several states just on the island of Manhattan. Wyoming has less than 600K people, so we could potentially have more than 500 states. At the federal level, the Senate would essentially be a second version of the House.

But people would probably not divide up Manhattan into 16+ pieces because they would lose the benefits of working as a unit.

There's a tradeoff. Cooperation between those states would invite more interference from the federal government. States are not allowed to bypass the federal government to make deals among themselves.

The great thing about the Senate is that it recognizes this tradeoff. States have more power the larger they are, but they still have just two Senators. Individuals can gain power by joining to form a state, but can't use that power to take over the country.

What problems and protection from what, exactly?

What about debt obligations that Colorado entered into while those counties were a part of it, and which they drew benefits from? Are they just going to walk away from it and say to the rest of the state, "You own it?"

There would need to be a new field of stars arranged for 51 states.

Funny how the usual suspects haven’t descended upon this thread to stamp their feet about the evils of the south.

You don’t suppose that their real motivation has little to do with the south and more to do with hating American culture do you?

;-)
