WILMINGTON, Del. - August 21, 2013 (WPVI) -- Vice President Joe Biden has canceled three appearances Thursday in Rhode Island and Maine, opting to stay in Houston while his son, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, is evaluated at a top cancer center.

The vice president was scheduled to headline a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee at the home of Alison and Bill Vareika. Alison Vareika said Wednesday the event has been called off.

Biden's other appearances Thursday - a fundraiser in Maine for New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan and an appearance at Rhode Island's Salve Regina University - have also been called off, although Salve Regina University said its event would take place in Biden's absence.

His son, Beau, is being evaluated at MD Anderson in Houston. I hope all turns out well, the VP has suffered tragic losses in his family. I wish him well; time for prayers, not politics.

VP Biden is a nut but he, his son and the family don’t need to be going through this. Prayers for his son.

I must be an evil man for I find it very difficult to muster any compassion for a man who would knowingly and gleefully inflict like suffering on millions of decent Americans through policies he knows in his heart are Godless and wrong.

My dad was treated at MD Anderson for his prostate cancer, cleared it right up. One of the best facilities in the country.

When jom corzine was in a coma, I prayed that when/if he survived, he would have learned SOMETHING about being a decent human being. He didn’t. Throughout biden’s tragedies including his own illness, I prayed HE would learn something about human decency. He didn’t. I pray that the sins of the father do not also punish his son.

I head on the news today that they had found a mass in his brain. Sounds bad, even if it isn’t cancer, it sounds bad.

Cancer is an insidious disease - I have it. Diagnosed 10 years ago with incurable NHL - specifically, MCL.

My doc opted for a protocol developed by MD Anderson. Nothing ground-breaking, but high doses of CHOP, Rituxin, and Methotrexate [Hyper-CVAD treatment]. Aterwards, had autologous stem cell transplant.

So far, its worked - others with same disease who were treated with me [by other docs] did not get same treatment. They are dead - I am not. Go figure ...

If it were a year from now and Beau wasn’t privileged would he be getting such treatment? Don’t think so. That’s what I think about. Not “taking the high road”.

"I pray that the sins of the father do not also punish his son."

Nothing to worry about there, the progressive son has plenty of his own sins to worry about.

Wow, that is great news. Thank goodness for your doctor and MD Anderson. Sadly, with clinical trials’ current design, they have to randomize patients and some receive either an alternative or a placebo. I hope that changes..if the proposed treatment works for some, it should be offered to all.

I don’t blame you..I don’t have to wonder if you or I would be receiving the top notch care that the well-heeled/connected do.

Gee...wonder why M D Anderson in backwoods Texas? Isn’t Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston MA good enough? After all, medicine is far more advanced in the northeast...just ask anyone in that part of the country.
