TEXAS: Sen. Ted Cruz won’t endorse Sen. John Cornyn for re-election

DUBLIN, N.H. – If Texas’ senior senator, John Cornyn, was hoping for an endorsement from Texas’ junior senator, Ted Cruz, he can forget it.

Cruz said Friday afternoon he’s staying neutral as Cornyn seeks re-election next year.

“Sen. Cornyn is a good man. He's friend. He and I have worked side by side on a great many issues fighting for Texas, fighting for conservative principles,” he said when asked about Cornyn’s campaign at a New Hampshire GOP fund-raiser. “It is likely that I am going to stay out of incumbent primaries across the country, either supporting incumbents or opposing incumbents.”

Cruz, 42, is a tea party favorite who toppled the establishment candidate, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, in a hotly contested GOP Senate primary last year. Cornyn remained neutral in that race for an open seat, as did many statewide Republican officials.

Neutrality when it comes to the reelection of the No. 2 Republican in the Senate – Cornyn serves as deputy minority leader – is dramatically different. In Kentucky, tea party Sen. Rand Paul has enthusiastically promoted the reelection of Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, to the dismay of some tea party activists.

Cornyn shrugged off the snub.

“Senator Cruz has been a great addition to the US Senate and I have enjoyed working with him, fighting for Texas and conservative principles,” he said through an aide, told of Cruz’s comments. “He and I agree that the only endorsements that matter are those of the Texas voters and I look forward to earning their vote in 2014.”

This wasn’t the first such incident.

In February 2012, in the midst of the Texas primary, Cruz declined to endorse Cornyn’s Senate GOP leadership bid, saying he wanted to see how many “constitutional conservatives” held seats when the contest took place that fall.

Under normal circumstances you are right, but now we are in a struggle between same old GOP that goes along to get along and conservatives that are realists enough to know America is at the edge of ruin and that we either make critical course corrections or wind up like Europe.

Cornyn tried a bit to fool us but has now proved by his Town hall hiding he and Cruz are on different sides.

Our biggest trouble with Cornyn is finding a known and viable opponent for the Primary. Without a good option Cornyn may be our only choice. He is better than having any dem Senator.

Tyler’s Conservative Radio covered DoWorst in depth. I believe some of our TV news as well.

DoWorst is a genuine slimeball politician.

Thanks, Ted. Now I need not feel badly when I fail to vote for him.

Texas has not and will not, even if we must go on our own way.

Cornyn disappoints at times but he’s not awful.

My whole point is that a senator who doesn’t learn how to build coalitions is going to find himself with no friends no matter how correct he may be. That’s how Washington works, not how I’d prefer it to be. This town has a lot of scratch-my-back-itis. The guy who decides he is too pure will get marginalized.

Yes he is, and now he’s feeling what mud feels like thrown back.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

GO ABBOTT!

This town? Or that town? I thought you were in Austin. Guess you’re in DC.

Scott Brown is also an idiot. Anyone who blurts out Scalia in Massachusetts has no plan for answering the question. He should have said Kennedy. Kennedy had not sold out the GOP in a major way until 2013. Roberts would have been a bad answer.

Scott Brown was getting hammered for not voting for Elena Kagan who had more than 60 votes. Yet he didn’t know how to answer the Justice question.

It would be like if Tom Cotton blurted out Rand Paul if he is asked which Senator he likes. That is one positive I see about Tom Cotton on foreign policy. Just pick a mainstream candidate like Boozman or Sessions.

Leadership is not going along to get along. Leadership is doing what you know is right inspite of all the nay sayers.
Maybe Cruz has it, maybe not, but he damn sure isn’t worried about what friends he makes in DC and that in itself is a sure sign of leadership.

We got in this mess because all the politicians wanted to be civil and the clique requires them to go along to get along. Except the dems rarely gave in much and demanded the GOP give in a lot, usually for some asinine reason like “For the Chillren”.

What it’s going to take to get us out of this mess is for the elected politicians doing what is right, to use good old common sense and quit worrying about the next election.

If things keep going down this same road over the cliff, many of us are not going to stay on the sinking ship and will go our own way. I really hope that never comes to pass, but it sure could.

Four months later, here we are... I’m expecting Stockman to start giving us yard signs, only 8 weeks to go.

I had to online order Cruz signs and bumper stickers. Hope Stockman has them on his campaign website.
