Where are you getting .40 S and W for 50 cents a round? More like a dollar a round here.Local Wal-Mart has had it quite a bit recently. 50-round boxes are $19 and change (closer to $21/box with tax) and they had some 100-round value packs that, with tax, worked out to 39 cents/round.
