Rush Limbaugh's move to WOR could be the start of major shift in New York talk radio
New York Daily News ^ | August 26, 2013

Rush Limbaugh's now-official move to WOR (710 AM) on Jan. 1 could be the first in a series of dominoes that reshape New York talk radio.

That will be especially true if Sean Hannity joins him and gives WOR the afternoon combo — Rush from noon-3 p.m. and Hannity from 3-6 p.m. — that propelled WABC to the top of city talk radio and has kept it there this whole century.

Widespread reports have Hannity wanting to get away from Cumulus, which owns WABC. Hannity’s current syndication deal is through Premiere, which is a division of Clear Channel, which owns WOR. His Premiere deal expires at the end of the year, but it would be no stretch to see him reupping and joining 710. Clear Channel bought WOR a year ago and has been more or less marking time there, with ratings it no doubt wants to improve. While Limbaugh and Hannity’s listenership has flattened out in the last few years, they still host the two most popular radio talk shows in the country.

Bob Grant got me into talk radio. He influenced my political thinking, much to my parents chagrin. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Mr.
Grant. He’s a very smart man, he knew what was going on with former Gov McGreevy before that hit the fan. I miss him on the air.

Yes, and those of us who aren't cowards who turned chicken a** and ran away to a 3rd World sh*thole, just when they country needed them the most, can listen to Rush on good ol' broadcast radio, just as we always have.

Here's another radio goodie you should check out...it's perfect for you:

Chicken Man (he's everywhere, he's everywhere!)

Coward.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

If you have a SmartPhone you can download TuneIn and find a station with Rush. Also, you can listen on line at TuneIn.com

They have links to stations all over

Long John Nebel and Candy Were before my time, I’ve heard a few of their tapes around, and enjoyed what I heard.

Art Bell I liked, but you can’t take seriously. George Noory, I’m not thrilled with. I go to books on tape now if I can’t sleep.

I loved Jean Shepard. It was a treat to stay up late to listen to him. WOR was a great staton back then, WABC was WA Beatle C. They played music. I remember when they went to talk radio, I think they had both Rush and Lynn Samuels on. It was like point counter point from SNL.

Wow. That was way before my time, I’m going to have to call my mom tomorrow and see if she remembers this host. I’ve heard the name.

I hope you enjoyed the waffle cones, they sound yummy.

Right. But WABC is a 50,000 watt “Clear Channel” station, WOR is not.

All join The Blaze!
GB in the morning.
Rush at Noon.
The Great One after 3.
Curtis & Kuby til 10
Bachelor til 12
Then back by popular demand, Live from Subic Bay, Art Bell on the overnight!
Woot Woot!!

WOR got all wee-weed up and wouldn’t pony up for GB a short time ago.
Hannity’s a Doofus.
Gambling is a big RINO and I can’t listen to him anymore.

It must be the antenna pattern then, going west of NYC signal of WOR starts disappearing half way through NJ, while WABC is solid beyond Port Jervis.

I don’t think hearing Rush, while living in the Philippines as Alex does after rushing away from the US but keeping his US social security, and sending in no income tax completed form, ever, would be relevant. As Ms. Clinton says, “What difference does it make?”. Putting the radio on Philippino music, whatever that is (maybe coconuts hitting together) would make more sense. He says he lives on the beach - that’s a lot of sand in everything.

“If you have a SmartPhone you can download TuneIn”
___________________________________________________
Yes, I have used TuneIn, formerly RadioTime.com

The point of mentioning Dar.fm is that you do not have to listen live. DAR records the program for you, on their servers. You play it back whenever you like. This is most useful for those living outside of the states.

Totally with you on all points. I quite fondly recall the AM transistor radio on the kitchen countertop... WOR was on every morning. In the afternoon when mom was getting dinner ready, Bernie Meltzer was always on. I even remember the drives home from my grandmother’s in the ‘62 Ford Falcon Station Wagon... and Jean Shephard was on.

A few years back I found I was back in NJ again... and I set up an AM radio in the kitchen... mornings when I would be starting a soup stock or egg salad or some meal prep, I would just leave the radio be... and it would go from Rambling with Gambling to Joan Hamburg... I could not stand Joan, but there was just something “right” with the world because WOR was still the same... coming out of a lo-fi mono counter-top transistor radio speaker... as God intended.

We got WOR just fine on the west side of Jugtown Mountain out in western NJ. I get a signal well into PA as well when I am driving west.

You guys wanna talk 50kW flamethower signal on that list of yours, CFZM 740 zoomer radio out of Toronto... I would pick that up down in New Jersey... it was great to hear old time radio shows at night... and it became my “go to” station it I wanted to hear Christmas music when going out to drive around and look at Christmas lights. It was the Christmas music I remembered as a kid... as opposed to that God-damned commie Springsteen’s version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town.
