Witness: Man accused of killing Ga. baby hid gun

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — A man accused of fatally shooting a baby in coastal Georgia hid a gun at a relative's apartment the day after the slaying, and his mother and sister came to get it, a woman who lives in the home said Monday.

Danielle Williams testified that De'Marquise Elkins came to her home March 22, the day after 13-month-old Antonio Santiago was shot to death in his stroller, and asked if he could hide a gun under a loveseat. Later that day, Elkins' mother and sister came by the apartment and left with the gun, Williams said.

Williams' father-in-law, Ronald Elkins, who said he's a third cousin of De'Marquise Elkins, testified he was sleeping that morning and was awakened by noise. He went downstairs and found Karimah and Sabrina Elkins — De'Marquise Elkins' mother and sister, respectively — lifting the loveseat and pulling out a gun.

Concerned for his young grandchild in the home, Ronald Elkins took the revolver, emptied the bullets and returned the gun and bullets to Karimah Elkins, he said....

Prosecutors have said information from Elkins' mother and sister led investigators to a pond where they found the revolver. Karimah Elkins is on trial alongside her son on charges of evidence tampering and lying to police.

Elkins' sister also was charged with evidence tampering. Willie Merrell, who described himself as a good friend of Karimah Elkins, testified that he picked up Karimah and Sabrina Elkins the day after the shooting and took them to a fishing pond where he catches bass. At one point, Merrell heard a splash but didn't see anything, he testified.

A diver with the Emergency Management Agency ... testified that a small .22-caliber revolver with an empty chamber was pulled from that same fishing pond a few days later.

The short cartridge and extended lead was made almost by accident for the 1/9 twist of the AR.
1/7 twist is also good with that Aguila product. Also I keep that specific round in my .22 Bobcat
that isn't going to be accurate past 4 yards anyway, so may as well spit some big lead out of it.

Oh, and using those rounds will bugger up an AR really fast. Simply clean it out
using .223 for about five rounds. Ime.

Well, he could possibly still be shot dead while attempting to escape

I usually shoot piston ARs, so I turn the gas completely off tot he piston system and avoid lead deposits into the gas system/impingement tube. I just recently built an impingement gun with a 16” barrel but mid-length gas tube. I’ll be shooting a lot of .22lr through it using the CMMG kit. I don’t intend to shoot the 60 grain subs through it since the impingement tube might be fouled from heavy lead at low pressures (compared to the 5.56 rounds it will also shoot).

I’m going to test the rounds in a variety of .22 tools, like the SR22, the 1022, and a couple of revolvers and a lever Henry youth model. I’m curious, and the ammo is available because most folks have not been introduced to it.

There’s an old joke about Buckwheat converting to Islam and changing his name to Kareema Wheat.

I have not fired the round being discussed through the 1022 but it is my understanding that the twist
will make the round lob or tumble due to the weight.of the lead. I'll check the stats on the barrel when I have time.

The sub sonic SSS likes the 1/9 twist of the AR. The .223 5.56 can handle that because of velocity. vs twist.
and copper jacket. Let me know how it goes from 10-50 yards in a stock .22.

Sick, but still funny, not in a good way, but still funny in a twisted, sarcastic way, I guess.

Well, that may well be the case, but he also could meet the same fate as another “isolated” inmate, Jeffrey Dahmer.

Tie them all to the same stake in a public square and set them on fire.

I think I like the idea of a 60 grain bullet tumbling into a perp at close range ... increases the umph factor don’tchaknow.
