The University of Notre Dame will begin admitting illegal immigrants to the school and will provide them with financial aid, saying the move will strengthen the student body.

Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Process -(DACA)- USCIS
"On June 15, 2012, the Secretary of Homeland Security announced that certain people who came to the United States as children and meet several key guidelines may request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal, and would then be eligible for work authorization. Deferred action is a discretionary determination to defer removal action of an individual as an act of prosecutorial discretion. Deferred action does not provide an individual with lawful status."
Your kids, not so much.
The Fighting Irish don’t care if you’re Irish. Do they care if you’re Catholic? Just wondering.
The insult is that for every illegal they accept a legal citizen who’s parents have been paying taxes to help support the illegal and the school will loose a place.
I used to do corporate recruiting of employees at Notre Dame and the quality of their students was second only to the Service Academies..far above the Ivy League..now I would be more selective.
In a sane country, Notre Dame would suddenly find all Federal grants, loans, and subsidies cut off, and would no longer be considered an eligible institution for students using Federally backed student loans.
Too bad we’re no longer sane.
Call it what it is: enrolling criminals.
ND is my son’s number one choice for college next year and has (had) a decent chance of getting accepted - I don’t have the heart to tell him about this but he will probably find out thru his friends, unbelievable.
Illegal aliens are shock troops for the revolution.
They bear no love for US citizens, and are here for what they can take - by force if required.
After all, Americans have had it too good for too long.
As for accepting illegals, the admissions process is extremely rigorous, so I'll assume anyone who is admitted has a very high GPA and equally high ACT score.
Is Notre Dame now offering landscaping/lawnmowing classes?
That’s gonna leave a mark
This is true and like I said, my son has a very good chance of making it. However - I wonder if the admissions process will be the same for illegals? If the kid just has to declare himself or herself an illegal, will there be a seperate admissions process for them? ND probably has a certain number (quota) in mind to accept - those declaring themselves illegal may just go right to the front of the line, which is BS.
Initially, I felt bad for ND a few years ago, when Obama spoke there. Now, I think they deserve each other.
That's beside the point. ND is making a statement. And the statement is that they are aiding and abetting illegal entry into this country. If I was an alumnus and donor, I would be furious that my donations were going toward this.
It's meant to.
How about providing financial aid to the illegal indigenous populous?
Catholic university presidents urge Congress for immigration reform -
“The Catholic educators have gotten involved because, according to Catholic University of America president John Garvey, Our primary mission as universities is to teach students to love their neighbors. The letter notes that Catholic universities and colleges have historically provided opportunities to immigrants, who in turn have enriched our country through hard work, service, and creativity. Says University of Notre Dame president Father John Jenkins: Catholic institutions are concerned with the dignity of all people.
“Archbishop Jose Gomez of the USCCB’s Committee on Migration is encouraged by the message the presidents are sending. I welcome the support of the Catholic presidents for immigration reform,” he says. “They are a welcome voice in this debate, as they see the potential and talent in newly arriving immigrants. Immigrants, especially youth, are important for our nations future and competitiveness. Educators understand the importance of investing in immigrant youth so they can become tomorrows leaders.
What makes me anxious is how one sided the argument is, coming from Catholic leaders.
I have some sympathy for the children brought here through no fault of their own, who know no other country or way of life but America, BUT, it’s as if the American hierarchy never heard of subsidiarity, or respecting the obvious rights of nations to protect and defend their own borders.
Heck, why should nations have borders, or order in processing entry, or health records, or background checks, or skills and work records. Heaven forbid we even inquire about the reasons or purpose of their presence!
The argument for order and for border control and for both national and economic security is non-existent in the world of the USCCB laboratory of reason and debate.
There is no coherent, reasonable case made by Boehner’s Congress either. We are taken over now and it shows.
I’m not a fan of the illegal activity. What bothers me is when people presume Notre Dame doesn’t have a Catholic emphasis in most everything it does. Wrong minded administration types are bleeding hearts who want to offer an education to people regardless of the law. Not to my liking.
Not sure whether they’ll go to the front of the line...I suspect they’ll adhere to admissions policies, but admit illegals if they’re highly qualified.
I hope you’re right but wouldnt be surprised if there is another line for them....
