It's a question he has been asked in the past, but this time it came amid a campaign for the U.S Senate.
In a profile that appeared in the Washington Post on Monday, Newark Mayor Cory Booker was asked about the persistent rumor that he is gay.
"People who think I'm gay, some part of me thinks it's wonderful," Booker told the interviewer, "because I want to challenge people on their homophobia. I love seeing on Twitter when someone says I'm gay, and I say, 'So what does it matter if I am? So be it.'"
When asked about the interview by The Star-Ledger today, Booker said it was his plan to stick to the major issues in his race against former Mayor Steve Lonegan of Bogota, a Republican, and that sexual preference should not be an issue when voters go to the polls on Oct. 16.
"I don’t intend to answer," said Booker, who was returning from Washington after attending a meeting with President Obama on gun violence. "It should not matter. That was my point."

Rival calls Booker’s ‘gay’ comments ‘weird’
“It’s kind of weird,” Lonegan, the former mayor of Bogota, said in an interview Tuesday night when asked about Booker’s remarks by Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg. “As a guy I personally like being a guy.”

This is precisely the reason gays are gaining in the implementation of gay life. Why on Earth is this a campaign issue? Can you believe that people are interested in this? Well keep the issue of gays alive and they will gain more and more. Conservatives will NEVER learn. I always thought conservatives have done more to advance the gay agenda than anybody else.

So I guess he’s gay then. My gaydar is as accurate as your average meteorologist so I don’t have a clue whether he is by looking at him. I couldn’t tell that Darrin #2 on Bewitched was a homo until someone told me, I thought the reason he had zero chemistry with Samantha was just because he was a terrible actor.

At least he’s not denying it outright like Charlie Crist. Still pretty pathetic though not to answer, I mean that’s all well and good if the idea is to keep that stuff to oneself as you should and not pimp “gay rights”, I think former Republican Rep. Dave Drier took that approach. But Corey’s not for that, he’s for being out and proud and loud, right? So he’s a hypocrite.
Could he really just be refusing to answer because of his twisted principles? Call me cynical but I think that’s unlikely. Possible sure but I don’t know, if he’s not gay then he really shouldn’t want to be giving women the idea that he’s gay, right? Is neither gay nor straight, is he like “Troy McClure” in that classic Simpson’s episode where he married Homer’s sister in law? ;p
A shame all we’re tossing at him is Lonegan, who will lose badly because gay or not, who knows, doesn’t matter, but we do know he’s a socialist and a clown.
