Report: Russian President Putin 'infuriated' by Obama's 'bored kid' quip
The Hill ^ | 8/28/13 | Justin Sink

Russian president Vladimir Putin was "infuriated" by President Obama's joke that he looked "like the bored kid in the back of the classroom," according to a Kremlin official quoted anonymously by the New York Times.

The report comes as the United States weighs a military response to the use of chemical weapons in Syria — a move that Russian officials have warned President Obama against. Russia is expected to block any attempt to get authorization for a strike in the United Nations Security Council, where Moscow holds veto power.

Obama made the comment earlier this summer during a showdown with Putin over Edward Snowden, the former U.S. defense contractor who leaked top-secret details of the National Security Agency's surveillance programs. Putin ultimately opted to grant Snowden temporary asylum over the objections of Obama, and the president was asked about his working relationship with the Russian leader.

"I know the press likes to focus on body language, and he's got that kind of slouch, looking like the bored kid in the back of the classroom. But the truth is that when we're in conversations together, oftentimes it's very productive," Obama said.

The president insisted that he did not have "a bad personal relationship with Putin."

"When we have conversations, they’re candid, they’re blunt; oftentimes, they’re constructive," Obama continued.

Every time we use a cruise missile, we lose an aircraft.

A cruise missile is an aircraft.

I hope we don’t use very many cruise missiles supporting Al Queda.

Of course we could provide chemical weapons to Al Queda to use against Assad. What could go wrong with that?

Better would be to glass the whole country from orbit. Its the only way to be sure.

"The world can go - how do you say - sideways with this man very quickly. No one he has working for him knows what they are doing - possibly excepting Mrs. Clinton - and he certainly does not. All of us in our little community are worried - us, our friends in Berlin, London, Tel Aviv, and Langley too as you say. It is not like the barbarians at the gates. It is everythere are no gates. The Somalis, Chavez, Iran, Putin, Beijing, the ‘Norks" as you call them, the list is long and it is growing. We are not sure what to do."

Attention Tel Aviv City: Cleanup needed on aisle 'BO'.

First of all, the “bored kid at the back of the classroom” is often that way because he’s way ahead of the rest of the class.

Second, way to kick that hornet’s nest, Mr. President. Kick harder, why don’t you? What’s the worst that could happen?

And you really wouldn’t want to be the President, trying to find the right words to excuse the mess you walked into.

I wish both Obama and Putin would just go to Siberia and never come back. Both of these leaders are crap. Sure Putin is great on gay rights but he is a mess otherwise. I know some are thinking he is wonderful but not me. He needs to become a capitalist and conservative big time before I will start praising the guy and even then....not guaranteed.

There’s etiquette for being a world leader. You never, never say anything bad about another world leader.

Your right. The next President is going to have to have his work cut out for him. First visit is Russia....nope I don’t want him to kiss Putin’s ass but we don’t need Russia being a foe.

Odumbass and Putin have cut a deal pre-second term election.

Has everyone forgot Odumbass’s comment about being more flexible with Putin after he won the re-election?

The deal is in on Syria and the oil deal between Russia and Saudia Arabia has been cut.

Pipelines have been closed down entering Libya so all is good.

And all the media can report on is that the price of oil is going up because of SYRIA not Libya’s pipelines being shut in.

If Putin were really angry, he'd release what he really knows about Obama

Anything like that would just give Obama a way to bring his former supporters back into the fold. His current warmongering is eroding his support. Putin took Snowden in after letting Obama squirm and look foolish for just long enough.

It's the chess player vs the street thug. The chess master will find a time and place to further erode Obama's authority. JMHO

The president insisted that he did not have "a bad personal relationship with Putin."

He does now. What an idiot.

Better push the Reset Button again.

Actually, I am having the same suspicion. That is one way things can get out of control.

there ya go

as long as they can hold their cards about obama and use them to control our govt which are all complicit in letting him be elected or are paralyzed with fear over “riots” by the folks if the poser is removed- then Putin will not play those cards

“All you need is three or four US aircraft knocked down in the first day, and there’s bound to be a bunch of explaining that the Pentagon and the President has to do.”

He and Kerry will simply blame it on a video and then lock up the video maker for years.

At this point, what difference would it make? Obama is going to finish out his second term period. Wish it were otherwise, but let’s be real.

I’m sure Putin can do other things that can/will make Obama’s life very difficult. I think Obama’s mistake is thinking he can treat Putin the same as the likes of McCain and Romney.

a very interesting read, akin to a Tom Clancy novel

If obama handlers had any concerns about Langley, since his first term they moved to consolidate their control and suppress dissent by turning the NSA into their personal KGB, using it against the CIA’s own (Petraeus) and moving a “cleaner” (John Brennan) and his capo’s in to handle things-

polygraphs of Benghazi players every other month? administrative waterboarding!

LOL! We’d all be shocked and awed if we knew what terms the Russians (and Iranians and North Koreans etc) REALLY used to describe our potus, wouldn’t we?
Not know for their PC views of racial mixing

“monkey with a hand grenade” being a mild hint

I bet that UN chatter has some real interesting stuff

Yup. I’m guessing that Syria has lots of advanced Russian hardware they are saving for a Rainy day. If they were smart, they trained their crews in Russia vs. turning it on in Syria for our ELINT to pick up.

I’d also be worried about anti-ship missiles.

Obama would blame it all on the sequester. And the MSM would echo it, ignoring that it was his decision to go to war.
