I am surprised that the muslims did not destroy the building like the Taliban did with the statues of Buddha in Afghanistan.
disinformation.
Haigia Sophia was a Christian church that was turned into a mosque and later was turned into a museum.
Nothing new here.
And the bad news is that a lot of folks worry that it could collapse in an earthquake and kill everyone inside (the dome partially collapsed in 1346), which is one reason it became a museum in the first place.
better to kill a couple dozen tourists than a couple thousand worshippers...
It was a mosque before they turned it into a museum.
How about Islam creating something of their own for a change?
Wasn’t Turkey their wished for caliphate seat?
Was there 2 years ago and was SHOCKED that a lot of Christian frescoes were still on the walls. Shocked they hadn’t painted over all of it.
Well said, Mrs Don-o!
It is truly sad how so many American Christians can be so overly simplistic. Paul did say that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, but he never said that the Holy Spirit can only dwell in a believer’s body. Christian temples (the proper name for a church building) are still holy. Paul uses the concept of the temple’s holiness to teach his message about how to treat the body. Everyone in his time understood the sanctity of the temple; no one would dare desecrate the temple. So he drew on that common accepted belief to explain to Christians that they should consider the body holy and clean, using the temple as an example for them.
What you say is scary, because it is not all that improbable, judging by the way too many people here still think a certain religion is a religion of peace. But my guess is that Notre Dame in Paris will be a mosque in 60 or 70 years, ahead of any of the places you mention. France will soon be a Muslim country, and Christianity will likely be illegal there someday within the lifetime of the youngest alive today. Just look at what is happening in churches in Syria, Egypt, etc.
Very, very good Scriptural example. Thank you!
