A Gresham bakery that refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, prompting a state investigation, shut its doors.

On Sunday, KGW stopped by Sweet Cakes by Melissa and found the bakery completely empty. All counter tops, display cases and decorations were gone.

Hanging in the window was a sign from the Oregon Family Council that read "Religious freedom is under attack in Gresham."

As first reported in Willamette Week, Sweet Cakes by Melissa posted on its Facebook page, “This will be our last weekend at the shop we are moving our business to an in home bakery. I will post our new number soon.”

In January, Laurel Bowman said Sweet Cakes by Melissa refused to sell her a cake after learning it would be for a same-sex wedding.

So now they won´t pay taxes for cakes sold to the city, they won´t have any employees. This goes against the grain of getting everyone back to work in America. I wonder if the guy in the WH has any clue of how this all works. I´d say that there could be TWO cake bakeries in Gresham, ONE for the same sex people, and one who didn´t want to bake cakes for the same. LET FREEDOM RING:

Man, would you eat food that was provided under duress?

"Here's your cake. Keep in mind that I didn't particularly care for you to begin with, then you forced me to incur substantial legal bills, then tried to drive my family out of the business we've held for years, for no other reason than 'you could'. As a result of your actions, my family and I have suffered needless verbal abuse and physical threats from you, and hundreds of people just like you.

So......Bon Appetit!"

I'd not want to be within 100 yards of anything provided in a situation like that.

“So they can now have both their business AND their home taken.”

Why not? They’re nothing but hateful, knuckle-dragging, idiotic, man-in-the-sky believing, Christian morons.

IMHO

It is clear that under Obama , we are a Muslim nation. Muslims get special protection under the law, or the government sues.

Holder and Obama suing tucking company for not allowing Muslims special rights.

we have a bakery like this in our little city...

the guy renovated his garage into a kitchen, he has no store but supplies bread to various local stores and markets. It is the best bread you can get in town. His raisin bread makes the best french toast. And the biscotti are excellent.

It can be done, my guess is that they will do something like this, but will no longer take any orders, eliminating the sodomite problem.

Good for them..they refused to compromise...better to lose your business than your soul

This isn’t right. They should not have been forced to do this. Reading this today before coffee, but this makes me angry. More people need to take a stand against this. Religious beliefs are grounds enough to refuse service to a customer without penalty of (gasp) discrimination. I guess nothing will happen until they try this at a Muslim establishment.

Surely they could. In the same way some avoided arrest by the Nazi SS in Europe during WWII...but of course that's not the point.

WE CANNOT ALLOW LEGAL DISCRIMINATION AGAINST RELIGIOUS CONSCIENCE TO STAND IN THE USA!!!

True but you can probably figure a person involved in such a ‘controversy’ would be recording and if he/she stubbed their toe on the way out the door, in todays idiotic mood, you would be charged with (and from the sounds of this) and possibly convicted of causing the stub - at least of creating a situation that made ‘them’ nervous and ‘their’ toe was stubbed because of it.

It is this type mindset that ‘forces’ businesses to charge up front....A fast food joint doesn’t hand over the food until the money (or payment) is in THEIR possession.

Money first. We will worry about the quality later....

Granted you willingly walk into a MacDs and you ‘know’ the rules but imagine if your local Asphalt Driveway Contractor charged 100% BEFORE he started work?
Naturally it is your choice not to use him and the way things are going if you wanted ‘him’ to do your driveway all you would have to do is sue if you felt you didn’t ‘need’ to pay him upfront....AND probably win..

Let’s hope they succeed.

The sodomites are happy they have closed a Christian business.
