What separates "Duck Dynasty" from most reality shows is how quickly we see that the money hasn't gone to anyone's head. Early in the first season, Jase and Si Robertson happen upon two dead nutria rats in the middle of the road. In Louisiana, they explain, the state pays $5 for nutria tails because of the damage the rodents do to the marshes. The men pull over, Jase takes out his knife and cuts off their tails.
"Roadkill is a redneck's paycheck," he proclaims. "Just cause I got money in my pocket, that don't mean I'm too good to stop and pick up a five-dollar bill that's laying in the middle of the road."
As they ride off with their bounty, the stench of the roadkill drives the two men into fits of coughing. It's a funny sceneand a bit gross. Behind it, though, is the show's central theme: Be self-sufficient and, in the words of Phil Robertson, live off the land.

A very rich man told me once that bending over and picking up a penny is some of the easiest money you can make.
I wish I could see this show more often. The handful I’ve seen I just love.
Ping for later.
Just got tuned into Duck Dynasty in the last few weeks. I had ignored the show thinking it would be same garbage as most reality shows. Instead, I saw something my family could watch together and be entertained.
Putting something on TV that mirrors the values many Americans share, it’s about time.

Same here. Just started watching it this season.
Makes me happy happy happy.
It’s obvious that John Kerryliar and the Obamadork’s combined IQs wouldn’t approach that of anyone on that show.
And we won’t even talk about morals.
We call it road shopping. Most of my hand tools are off of the road. Plus a new $30 sleeping bag. I gave an entire deer to a hungry friend off the road.
You can buy the DVD’s of previous seasons for not too much money.
I love the episode where they want to make Miss Kay a custom apron because her boobs are too big. Not laugh out loud funny but good, wholesome TV.
I am seriously disliking the intentional “pairing” of DD with the stay-at-home dad abomination that A&E put on after it.
But Duck Dynasty is an unguilty pleasure!
This is truly a good show. I really like the comedy and family values. Take note! America craves this type of television programming. I miss Michael Landon.
The scene with Phil and the pet photographer is exceptional.
I DVR the new shows and watch them when I can. Want to watch them with the grandkids, and have reintroduced the practice of family prayer before meals. Great show, and great family example. A&E lucked out on this one...

I like the sentiment, however, for the lesson it teaches about opportunity in general.
I’ve also just started watching the series during the last month. Liked the episode in which Willie buys a vineyard and is pondering the name for a Robertson family wine. He suggests “Willie’s Wine,” whereupon his brother Jase says, “”Most people named Willie are either in prison or on the arm wrestling circuit.”
