This was a first for me. My rep, David Joyce, R-OH, sent me this email, asking me for a quick response to an emailed poll about my stance on Syria. He’s taking the initiative to collect his constituents’ opinions before the vote. My immediate reaction was to wonder why, in this digital age, I’ve never before been contacted by a politician with a poll like this before.

Friends:
I’m currently in the process of carefully and thoughtfully weighing the decision before Congress on Syria. I plan on being thoroughly briefed and will examine every piece of information as it becomes available. I believe any military action in Syria must require a clear mission and goal as well as serve the best interests of the United States. In my opinion, the Administration has not yet met those standards.
But I want to hear from you. Please take the survey below and share your thoughts on what the U.S. should or should not do in regards to Syria. I take this decision very seriously and your input is essential.
Do you support the Obama Administration’s resolution before Congress authorizing military action in Syria?
Yes, I support military action in Syria.
No, I do not support military action in Syria.
Undecided.

Kerry Bentivolio: Why this veteran opposes war with Syria
Taking a poll because he has no principles of his own?
Because he wants to get re-elected, and he knows flying in the face of his constituents on Syria will make it harder for him to do that.
