According to The News Leader, the would-be robber pulled a gun on Jon Lewis Alexander who was working at Beer 30, a liquor store in Marionville, Missouri.

Alexander, who served 30 years in the military including four tours in Iraq, was armed and pushed the would-be robber’s hand down and pulled out his Walther PPX 9 mm handgun.

Two comments about this. First of all the clerk used a very impressive martial arts technique.

That is, the perp had his gun hidden behind him in his right had, and turned while trying to raise the gun to point it at the clerk. With his left hand, the clerk “stopped” the perp from raising his gun, while with the clerk’s right hand, he pulled his own gun and put it in the perp’s face.

A “stop” is the technique. And while only delaying the perp from raising his gun for a fraction of a second, it was a fraction of a second that changed the whole equation.

The second thing is that he should have killed the perp.

Freeing an armed robber to rob again is no different than freeing a rapist to rape again. While he spared himself the inconvenience of an annoying inquest, he cast forth this criminal to likely rob someone less capable, and maybe to even kill them first to avoid the possibility that they were armed.

It is the “Matador Rule”. If a bull survives the ring with a matador, it is always killed, because the bullfighters know that bulls are intelligent enough to remember the fight, and adapt, so that the next time in the ring they would be far more dangerous, even lethal.

The same rule applies to criminals. If they foul up trying to rob or kill you, you had *better* kill them, or you are to blame for everyone they rob, and maybe kill, in the future. And many are so stupidly fixated on their modus operandi, that they may return to kill you.

The m.o.’s of criminals can be amazing in their stupidity. If they rob a convenience store and get away with it, for example, they might continue to rob convenience stores half a dozen times in the future, even if they are caught each time. Often they are so dumb, that they will try to rob the *same* convenience store over and over again.

So save everyone a whole lot of grief and shoot them to death.

Of course, it is easy for me to give advice to a hero after the fact, but it would have good if he could have told the robber to drop his weapon and lie down on the floor while he called 911.

Imagining the pucker factor involved with having the barrel of a gun practically shoved in his mouth, he probably won't $h!+ for at least a week.

Made me giddy for the next week :D

My advise was really not for him, but for everyone else.

He was also trained as a prison guard, so a lot of his training was in *not* killing criminals.

I don’t do the /sarcasm tag like some do!

I figure people here don’t need that tag when I post something like that!

He was interviewed and asked why he didn’t shoot the robber. He answered, he wasn’t able to point the gun at me if he had I’d have shot him........interesting because he didn’t give the guy a chance to point the gun at him, he pushed that hand back while he had his gun out and ready...interesting video....

Classic Aikido move - if you can't move out of the line of attack, deflect the line of attack.

It was very neatly done, he pushed the thug's pistol aside AS he was drawing his sidearm. I suppose he could tell by watching the shoulder if the guy was going to try to get the pistol back in line.

As I said, I couldn't/wouldn't be waiting for that. Although I certainly would try to take the weapon out of line if I could, my instinctive response would be BANG and that would be happening right away.
