Our warships launch Tomahawks at Syrian targets.
Russian warships closer to Syria launch interceptor missiles to try to shoot them down.
Our warships see these Russian missile launches and think they are being attacked. They launch missiles at the Russian warships.
The Russian warships see the inbound missiles and launch their missiles at the American warships.
World War Three ensues.
Or, Obama abjectly backs down, and as part of the terms, agrees to remove the U.S. Navy from the Med and Indian Ocean, for example.
Sometimes military paradigm shifts happen violently. Ask the Brits what happened to “Fortress Singapore” and their battleships there.
He can do anything he wants. He always has. THAT is why we are on the precipice of WW III.

Obama at this point in history is what happens when a child is fawned over, when the young adult is made to feel important and special, and NO ONE takes him to task as an adult, treating him as a god. Dr. Spock would be proud.
Well, now that the Russians have overtly stated that they have positioned nuclear weapons on Syrian soil, and intend to use them if we invade, or even strike, perhaps...
....perhaps the Saudis will realize that a global thermonuclear war might impact their lifestyles just a wee little bit.
They might order Obama to back down.

Russia “will help Syria” in the event of a military strike, Putin stressed as he responded to a reporter’s question at the summit.
“Will we help Syria? We will. And we are already helping, we send arms, we cooperate in the economics sphere, we hope to expand our cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, which includes sending humanitarian aid to support those people – the civilians – who have found themselves in a very dire situation in this country,” Putin said.
He’s a puppet. He knows that the checks have already cleared. And the Saudis undoubtedly have the birth certificate and incriminating information of any of his past political and financial dealings.
Even if he wanted to, he couldn’t. He’d just be replaced (perhaps messily) with someone who would.

Obama says that he intends to address Americans from the White House on Tuesday, and he will continue lobbying world leaders and members of Congress in the coming days to support limited strikes in Syria.
Maybe he should use some of that Hopey-Changey thing on his foreign (non)policy. Do not fear change! (Clinton in the 90’s)
