House Might Not Vote on Obama’s Syria Resolution
National Review ^ | 9-6-13 | John Fund

Posted on 09/06/2013 8:23:58 AM PDT by quimby

Congressional aides in both parties tell me that the chances of President Obama winning House approval for military action in Syria are so bad they actually doubt the House would ultimately vote on it if failure seemed certain.

Two new whip counts of House members by ABC News and the liberal Firedoglake web site show a majority of House members firmly or leaning against intervention. The Washington Post’s more conservative count stands at 204 “no” votes, only 13 short of the majority needed to kill the president’s request.

What am I missing?

It makes President Red Line look even worse than he already looks.

“I just don’t believe that if defeat is certain, the House leadership will want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a public vote,” one top aide to the Republican leadership told me.

Humiliate this buffoon in front of the nation and the world, just like he has humiliated America and Americans. The list is long, but start with his humiliating GM dealerships whom he put out of business - not because of a bankruptcy judge, but because the were Republicans.

It’s a good move because it shows a pattern of the right response.

No one says, no law states, that Congress need vote on anything the President proposes or requests. This President is playing pure politics and this move of shunning him, ignoring him, being indifferent drives liberals and socialists up the wall, because they think themselves so superior, so important that anyone that would ignore them must be crazy and it drives them crazy to see that.

So it’s a good move.

The author analyzes that it would be a weak move to vote. If they vote yes, Obama wins by saying it was Congress that approved the attack. If they vote no, Obama blames them for the loss of world influence. So if the House votes, then it would be seen that they are following Obama’s wishes. That would show weakness because they are not obliged to answer the President’s question.

But by not voting, Congress is showing Obama that he doesn’t matter in his political play games, that they don’t need to bow down to his will and vote, they are not obliged to vote. They can turn their backs on Obama and whistle in a symbolic way to say F You Obama!

They are doing the same on the immigration vote. Obama and Reid can say to their press lapdogs that the House is a do-nothing House but Americans largely don’t care about immigration or Syria. So it’s a win for Republicans in the House to ignore these issues and treat then like they don’t exist.

The House will pay attention to the budget and debt ceiling fight.

I don’t think the Senate feels it **has** to do ANYTHING, even if it is known that the White House has been overtaken by a foreign enemy combatant who is running roughshod over everything America is. They’d view it as an opportunity to giggle about the weirdos who think America is worth preserving.

The rats need to learn that even though they can fake an electoral win, it doesn’t mean they have a mandate. The people who realized Obama was bad news are still more than those who wanted him in office. Flipping votes in a few key democratic districts in critical states doesn’t change that.

The only means for the people to hold the power of election fraud in check is if the representatives we really DID elect actually represent the will of the constituents. It’s an important check because though it’s easy to steal a Presidential election, it would be harder to steal all the Congressional elections. They can do a few, like with Al Franken and Lisa Murkowski, but again, if the elected officials truly represent their constituents - or at least have a healthy fear of their constituents - the worst effects can be mitigated.

But Judge Denise Lind ruled that the President doesn’t issue any orders... only the military chain of command does. Whether or not those commands are authorized in the lawful, Constitutional way has no bearing on the lawfulness of the orders.

Just ask anybody who agreed with Judge Lind’s decision in the Terry Lakin court-martial. Then, too, the reason to not address Lakin’s questions/concerns was the possible “embarrassment” of Obama if Lakin or anybody else saw Obama’s BC - because what Obama posted on the White House website for Donald Trump’s sake was just so, so embarrassing...

On the other hand, he could lob a half-a-billion bucks in Tomahawks on empty targets and sit back while the MSM treats him like the second coming of Alexander the Great

The Russians will see the launch....and will fire off a swarm of their supersonic ship-killer missiles.

Assad also is reported to have at least 72 of these puppies...

In fact, the P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missiles that Russia has equipped Syria with are the most advanced anti-ship missiles that Russia has.

When the United States strikes Syria, they might be quite surprised at how hard Syria can hit back.

The Syrian military is the most formidable adversary that the U.S. military has tangled with in the Middle East by far.

From Syria, P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missiles can cover much of the eastern Mediterranean and can even reach air bases in Cyprus.

If the U.S. Navy is not very careful to stay out of range, we could easily see footage of destroyed U.S. naval vessels sinking into the Mediterranean Sea on the evening news. And once the American people see such footage, it will be impossible to stop a full-blown war between the United States and Syria.

They want people to die for this, but they don’t even have the guts to vote on it as is their duty. Bunch of freaking cowards.

I think actually this is a very smart move on Boehner’s part. PLEASE HEAR ME OUT AS I’VE BEEN OPENLY CRITICAL OF OUR REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP.

We should all pause here for a moment and give the guy some credit when it’s due.

I think Obama was poised to strike Syria for a variety of reasons, but mostly because it would take some of the flack off his back he was to get from Congress returning from vacation.

I think if you look back at things, Obama was poised and ready to attack Syrian airports, planes etc.

Assad was exposed.

Putin also was caught off guard, but he came out saying that Assad was not part of the gassing.

BUT I think covertly he made it clear to the British, Germans etc that he was going to back Assad.

Obama and his band of amateurs figured that the US military and a contingent of allies could send a quick message of how tough he is.

BUT

To Obama’s amazement and PUtin’s, the Brits back off, as do the Germans and others!!!

Obama is now alone. Fully exposed. No one in the US wants us to attack Syria alone.

I think Putin THEN sent him a clear message covertly that said we will attack US ships and planes in defense of Assad. I’m sure he made it very very clear and to back this up

Putin sends ships to the area.

(Think at this point the Bay of Pigs...Putin is Kennedy and Obama is Kruchiev)

Kerry steps up our intent of bombing. We are ready to bomb before the weekend. Remember? Three days at most.

Then the next day Obama declares that he’s going to Congress!!!!

Putin smiles. He knows this man is a coward. Now he owns him.

ON THE OTHER HAND BOEHNER SENSES THAT OBAMA IS GOING TO MAKE REPUBLICANS THE BAD GUY, AND THEREFORE GET HIM OFF THE HOOK.

BOEHNER AND COMPANY IMMEDIATELY SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR OBAMA’S AUTHOIRTY TO TAKE MILITARY ACTION. BUT THEY DO NOT OPENLY PERSUADE THIER MEMBERS TO BACK THE BOMBING.

Obama is now almost off the hook. Once Congress votes an attack down, he can save some face and say like Cameron that he will bend to the will of the American people.

NOT HAVING THAT VOTE PUTS IT BACK IN OBAMA’S COURT, WHERE IT IS NOW CLEAR FOR ALL TO SEE, THAT HE HAS NO INTENTIONS OF BOMBING SYRIA OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER.

BY NOT HAVING A VOTE IT EXPOSES OBAMA FURTHER.

THERE IS NO NEED TO HAVE THE VOTE. BETTER TO LET THE GUY SWING WITH THE MEDIA ASKING HIM WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW?

When the United States strikes Syria, they might be quite surprised at how hard Syria can hit back.

Our ships are definitely already in harm's way. In addition to the shore-mounted anti-ship missiles, which are probably manned by Russians, there are always the ubiquitous Bear Bomberss that are primed and cocked 24/7 with 1,500 mile+ anti-ship missiles.

I think The Mombasa MF is fully intended to play high-stakes 'chicken' with the Russkis, daring them to support their ally. Hero time, in which the scandals will pale in comparison to the dangers of combat under a wannabe "war-time President," just like FDR. Will the Russkis 'blink first,' or has The Mombasa MF already blinked?

Wag the Dog. It has always been the ultimate "safety valve" for troubled administrations.

...and can even reach air bases in Cyprus.

Well, they won't have to worry about that because Putin has taken Cyprus out of play for the US.

Dictatorship being set up to enslave Americans as infidels.

I'm beginning think along those lines myself:

DHS purchaser of ammo exposed running "War on The Horizon" website.
DHS purchasing over a billion rounds of ammo.
DHS staging armored vehicles throughout the country.
Reports of Nukes be clandestinely moved to secret locations.
US in bed with al-Qaida murdering Christians in the ME.
O trying to start WWIII.
New Head of ATF A-A. Head of Justice A-A.
NSA involved in spying on all Americans, and access to every form of communication.
IRS preventing conservatives from attempting to decrease the size of government.
Borders left unsecure. Fed ordering illegals to be released or not apprehended.
Obvious attempts at creating racial and class strife in the country.
NAZI like treatment of the traveling public.
Bankrupting the country and destruction of currency.
Hindering commerce through burdensome regulations.
Destruction of the medical care.
Creating artificial energy shortages and increased costs through acts of delays and executive implemented regulations.
Providing advanced arms and material support to the enemies of the US (i.e., Muslim Brotherhood, Al-Qaida, Chinese PLA).

Even a caveman would begin to wonder.
