“The Blind’s hearing tends to be very accurate, like a bat’s. If I were a criminal, I would be fearful of a blind person with a gun.”

First, I am a firearms instructor (NRA pistol) and I have a student who is blind. Just as you said, the students’ hearing is sufficient for her to put a bullet in an attacker by sound.

I tested the students acoustic target location capability in the following manner.
1. I removed the magazine and cleared the barrel, then had the student verify the empty condition of the gun by insertion of a finger into the magazine well and into the barrel chamber with the slide in the locked back position.
2. The magazine was secured outside the room and the student’s statement that no firearm or ammunition was either owned or in the room was verified.
3. I then inserted a Laserlyte acoustic activated laser into the barrel of the Colt Double Eagle, turned it on and tested it by dry firing. The 10 millisecond red dot appeared as advertised.
4. The student was then asked to point the gun at the sound made by my tossing a key ring onto the floor and pull the trigger (single action).
5. Considering the student had never held such a gun before, the red dot from the laser dot appeared remarkably close to where the keys lay on the floor.

Based upon the above I wrote a course for this student which differed from that for a normal student only in:
A. Greater than usual emphasis on familiarization of the hand to grip fit to ensure the gun pointed as the student wanted.
B. Extended range time.

In live fire practice, the student demonstrated an ability to regularly hit Center Of Mass when firing at defense distance.

Conclusion: Mugging the armed blind is trolling for a Darwin Award.

Last time I saw it, the FBI says that 95% of self-defense gunfights occur at a range of “less than 1 yard.”

This indicates to me that in the majority of self-defense gunfights, the antagonists are probably grappling with each other.

In which case a blind person would not have any trouble finding their target.

I have known a number of “legally blind” people who can “see” short distances in bright daylight, but are blind at night or at long distances.

A long as such a person, had reasonable training in firearms safety and knew their limits, I would not have a problem with them owning a weapon for self defense.

LOL, even if attacking Syria would normally be a good thing it is way too dangerous to entrust to these lunatics. Given Jimmy Carter’s hammer and nails they’d make coffins and promote them as green housing.

Comment from one elected Sheriff:

“If sheriffs spent more time trying to keep guns out of criminals’ hands and not people with disabilities, their time would be more productive,” Wethington told the Register"

I'd like to get this guy to run for Lee Baca's job.
