That’s because Putin didn’t deliver the ‘offical’ proposal until today of what the specifics were.
My concern is Hillary stated Assad has to abide by the June 2012 agreement...which just as Asad said would happen...you agree with the proposals on the table and they always want more..”it’s never enough”.
And here Hillary is setting ‘the conditions’ on the US proposal from ‘last year’....not the one Russia has proposed.
...and this is why Assad and M Easterners will not deal with the US...nor trust them. They will push Assad til he cannot agree....
Remember how Obamacare went down...well that is how they also deal with International Leaders...they ARE bullies...and then wonder why our nation is hated...
I'd like to say a few words about Syria.
A vigorous and important debate is underway in Congress and around kitchen tables all over America. This is a challenge that has catalyzed the kind of debate that I think is good for our democracy.
As you know, this is a fluid situation with statements from Russia, Syria, and others in the last several hours. I've just come from a meeting with President Obama where we discussed the latest developments. And three points in particular are at the heart of the decision our sountry and our Congress have to make in the days ahead.
First, as the president has said, the Assad regime's inhuman use of weapons of mass destruction against innocent men, women, and children violates a universal norm at the heart of our global order. And therefore it demands a strong response from the international community led by the United States.
Second, the international community cannot ignore the ongoing threat from the Assad regime's stockpiles of chemical weapons. Whether they are used again against Syrian civilians, or transferred to Hezbollah, or stolen by other terrorists, this is about protecting both the Syrian people and our friends in the region. The world will have to deal with this threat as swiftly and comprehensively as possible.
Now, if the regime immediately surrendered its stockpiles to international control as was suggested by Secretary Kerry and the Russians, that would be an important step. But this cannot be another excuse for delay or obstruction. And Russia has to support the international community's efforts sincerely, or be held to account.
It is very important to note that this discussion that has taken hold today about potential international control over Syria's stockpiles, only could take place in the context of a credible military threat by the United States to keep pressure on the Syrian government as well as those supporting Syria, like Russia.
Third, as has been emphasized many times, and I did so as Secretary of State, the broader conflict in Syria is a threat to regional stability and security of our allies and partners. As well as a humanitarian catastrophe for the Syrian people and those neighboring countries attempting to absorb hundreds of thousands — now more than two million refugees.
Achieving a political solution that ends the conflict is in the interests of the United States. It will require an intense diplomatic effort guided by the road map that was agreed to be the international community in Geneva last year, in June of 2012. There was an agreement we hammered out that pointed the way forward. We need to get to the opportunity to begin such negotiations to move toward a resolution.
The president and I discussed these challenges today. I will continue to support his efforts and I hope that the Congress will as well.
I've been in this from the get go...Assad is no good guy..there are 'none' in this mess....when you have the jihadists and terrorists intertwined in the mix ...and you know how they operate...it isn't hard to see their tactics do not change...because they work...fooled you as well it seems. Any ME nation that has protests against their government the Syrian and Saudi governments..and the MBS will one or the other sabotaoge that...we have seen this in all the Arab spring countries. It is well known that al Qaeda has some chemical stocks, acquired during its recent successful rampages through various phases of the “Arab Spring,” and that the Saudi royals tacitly support AQ except when it seems to threaten their power (and in fact, that supporting it abroad may actually protect them at home).
A lot of this conflict has to do with the Syrian gas fields, in any case. That’s one of the reasons that the “rebels” headed for Homs.

Assad gassed his own people. He did it because he’s a genocidal socialist dictator. The Saudis want to topple Iran’s ally in Syria, and so should we. Instead Americans believe whatever lies and nutty anti-American conspiracy theories Iran spreads.
They are all playing the political gain game...Hillary’s running for President and Obama has so damaged the Democratic party that the Democrats “need a face” to stabilize their base...who has been opposed to this mess in Syria.
Opportunity for Hillary to be the “calming” one in the heat of the battle to settle the issue...Obama couldn’t, neither could Kerry for obvious reasons...And all who are orchestrating these responses are ‘fired up’ to protect Obama and the party.

The Saudis do not have our best interests at heart, except insofar as they coincide. I’m not sure they even coincide in this case, but we’ve decided to do the will of the Saudis.
We can’t forget that Obama consistently takes the Sunni side in any conflict. That doesn’t mean the Shiites are better (they’re not, obviously; look at Iran) but it does mean that there are forces here that have nothing to do with US interests.
Assad is an Alawite, which is a splinter sect, and this is the reason that he has been fairly tolerant of Christians and other minorities, although the country seems to have large numbers of both Sunni and Shiites in it.
In any case, remember when Bush wanted to go into Syria and the Dems got hysterical because they said that the fact that Assad was clearly hiding Saddam’s chemical weapons was no justification for our intervention? Ah, how times have changed.

Also, I just realized that Obama just sent Kerry to the corner and punished him for his big gaffe by altering Hillary’s speech in a manner that had her poised as acting Sec of State. After all, as Obama said, she was the “best Secretary of States [sic]” America ever had.

They’re a strange group, and probably the thing that gave Assad the ability to move between Sunnis and Shiites (Iran). Saddam was a secularist, but technically a Sunni by birth. However, he was able to ally with Syria enough to ship out some of his weapons stocks.
Mind you, I’m not defending either Assad or the Sunnis or the Shiites. I’m saying that it’s not clear where American interests like, and also that I’m not confident that Obama cares about American interests.
He seems to identify most heavily with the Sunnis, although I don’t know why, except possibly that the majority in Indonesia is Sunni.

Reuters’ Nicholas Vinocur reports: France said on Monday that a Russian proposal to have Syrian President Bashar al-Assad hand over his chemical weapons arsenal was acceptable under conditions including a U.N. Security Council resolution, with consequences if he failed to comply.
“The proposal of the Russian foreign minister... is worthy of close scrutiny,” French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said in a statement. “It would be acceptable under at least three conditions.”
Fabius said that Assad would have to place his chemical arsenal under international control quickly and allow it to be destroyed, and that the operation should take place after a Security Council resolution.
