Atheists want cross removed from 131-year-old city seal in Florida
One News Now ^ | September 10, 2013 | Charlie Butts

A law firm that champions religious freedom is standing firm with a Florida town threatened over its city seal by Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

The atheist group Americans United complains that the seal used by DeLand, Florida, happens to contain a cross. Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver tells OneNewsNow the complaint really illustrates the absurdity of groups like Americans United.

Staver, Mat (Liberty Counsel)“This seal is part of the very founding seal of the city of DeLand. It's 131 years old,” says Staver. “No one has ever complained for 131 years until the Americans United for Separation of Church and State filed this letter.”

Staver says he is amazed that in the letter, Americans United distorts court precedence and ignores other cases that support the city's right to have the seal, which also contains a heart and anchor.

the seal, which also contains a heart and anchor.

This is a purge of Christianity from the culture...as if we don't and shouldn't exist.

I think it would be easier to remove the atheists from the state.

Why don’t they just incorporate a new town, based on their superior relativistic moral-ism on principles of atheism, and then populate with their own kind?

Then, after establishment, see what they do when religious newcomers move in and want to remove the Atheism seal.

This is no different from the purge of other groups throughout history.

I object to Scotus rulings that say Christianity can only show up if in “neutral” settings that also include other cultural items.

For that says that Christianity must be purged from being the everyday, common experience of America.

We exist too.

The Purge of Christianity from America

So here’s another case in which we are supposed to be liberal, and force yet another city to remove a religious symbol because some liberal is offended.

Nobody is hurt by this symbol. It’s simply a matter of liberals being offended. If liberals take offense at something, then court cases are filed and the liberals get their way.

If conservatives are offended, they are told by liberals to grow up/get over it/turn the channel, etc. Only liberals are allowed to be offended and do something legally about their being offended, in today’s politically correct world.

Maybe those atheists should be told to be “tolerant” and to “celebrate diversity.”

I’ll wager this will indeed be removed. Sad.

Let’s remove the atheists instead.

Many ancient cultures recognized the inherent evil of atheism, and proscribed death for those so inclined.

I agree that this represents offended liberals.

I believe, however, that it is more sinister.

It is part of a systematic purge of Christianity from our culture.

Even though we are a majority, we are not permitted to be public.

Everything else can be public. Christianity, however, can not stand alone. It can only appear if supported by other “cultural items” to provide a background of neutrality.

That is a purge. Pure and simple.

LOL!

A-holes have a God-shaped hole in the middle of their A-theist beliefs.

That makes them: A-Holes.

Since the letter “T” is also in the shape of a cross, I’ll wait for them to start calling themselves “aheiss”.

Hey!!!!

There was no Cross on the seal during the “billions and billions” of years previous to 1882.

So the last 131 years is just making up for lost time - fairness.

My first thought was...Yeah that ain’t going to happen, but I’ve said that so many times before and was wrong.

I have become so pessimistic in the last five years, and I’m starting to get very comfortable with it, I’m ashamed to say.

Why can't we vote on that? I'd respect that outcome, no matter which way it falls..
