Putin Didn't Save Obama, He Beat Him
The Weekly Standard ^ | Sep 10, 2013 | Lee Smith

Maybe Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin really did discuss the idea of putting Syrian chemical weapons under international control last week on the sidelines of the G20 conference. Putin sure doesn’t care that Obama’s taking credit for the proposal, or that the administration is posturing like a Mob enforcer. “The only reason why we are seeing this proposal,” said White House spokesman Jay Carney, “is because of the U.S. threat of military action.”

Right, Putin is laughing to himself. Whatever. If Obama wants to sell it like a Christmas miracle on Pennsylvania Avenue that’s fine with Putin, because Putin won.

Reset with Russia was originally a strategic priority for the Obama administration because it saw Moscow as the key to getting Iran to come to the negotiating table. Putin, from the White House’s perspective, was destined for the role of junior partner. Now Putin has turned “Reset” upside down. By helping Obama out of a jam with Syria, Putin has made himself the senior partner to whom the White House is now beholden. Accordingly, when Putin proposes the same sort of deal with Iran, with Russia having established its bona fides as an interlocutor for Syria, Obama is almost certain to jump at it.

What’s unclear is whether Obama understands that his foreign policy legacy will be to have ruined the American position in the Middle East, our patrimony of the last seven decades. If the 1979 takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran signaled weakness, the Russian deal screams surrender. The real surprise is that it’s not Iran kicking the United States out of the region under Obama’s watch, but Putin. . . .

Obama acts like he has a kick me sign on his back and nobody outside the USA will tell him.

First I find myself rooting for a traitor who went to Russia. Then I find myself admiring the Russian ruler.

The only constant in my worldview is that John McCain is still nuts as ever and Lindsey Graham is acting like he needs to stay in the closet.

Heck, if Putin HADN’T beat done O-blamer, I would have been surprised. This was definitely a case of the 1927 Yankees vs. 1962 Mets.

Obama may claim that he was intentionally employing the same strategy used by Riggs (played by Mel Gibson) in the Lethal Weapon movies.

Obama simply isn't ready for prime time. Putin has sprung a trap that this president simply can't easily extricate himself from. He is just as awful at foreign as he is at domestic policy.

But then, no real surprise there. He thinks that rhetoric trumps reality — but the fact is, it doesn't. Putin does not suffer from that illusion.

It's shameful to me that American foreign policy is being conducted by the Keystone Cops these days, from Lurch, our SecState, to the Oval Office and its minions.

He should thank the Republicans and the people for shutting his Middle Eastern “shot cross the bow” debacle down. If not, he would be knee deep in desert sh!? right now.

I agree with you. The opposition must feel very betrayed. The Obozo regime’s incompetence will repeat what happened in Egypt, where at the end of the day all factions are angry with us.

The mighty Bear ate the cowardice rat.

I have 1000 times more respect for President Putin than I do for that lying muslim trash that presently contaminates our White House.

I cannot remember a time in world history where incompetence ran this high.

I thought Jimmy Carter was bad, and he was, but not nearly as bad as the socialist/communist ass hats in power now.

Checkmate. Nicely played on Putin's part - I can admit that without going into a schoolgirl crush on the old KGB thug. The boy can play chess.

More has happened here than a richly-deserved humiliation for an administration that never seemed all that interested in foreign policy to begin with except as a mechanism for unlimited adulation. The never-stated 0bama administration doctrine of promoting the interests of the Muslim Brotherhood throughout the Middle East is foundering badly - it has failed in Egypt and looks to fail in Syria as well. That leaves Libya as a mess we may be paying for for a long time to come. It's the price of ideology and stupidity.

It was one of those double-secret-probation types of doctrine that never saw the light of day because (1) that keeps it deniable, and (2) it was never really thought out to begin with. What idiot came up with it in the first place? Hillary? Some State minion still working for Stalin? Valerie Jarrett? 0bama himself? What the hell were they thinking? Even if it were a doctrine crafted to harm the United States (and I wouldn't rule it out) it has been poorly conceived, incompletely pursued, and abandoned at the first setback. Even for evil-doing it is incompetent.

Putin will get everything he set out to obtain as far as I can tell: a warm water port, a locked-in client state, leverage against the Iranians, and a solid foothold in the Middle East that was beginning to crumble. Checkmate.

What you must understand is the nation is not undermined, the nation is not BHO, it’s you and me who are the nation. The moment the american people relieve themselves of this fool with a competent replacement everything can be restored!
Because we are a representative republic we can change the nations circumstances by voting again!

I thought that was going to happen in 2012. I was wrong.

What a strange time, where I find myself feeling ‘grateful’ that Putin is ‘helping out’. I know he’s doing this to gain a future advantage. Even we little people can figure that out.
What a bitter, muddy lesson for the low info voters. Worst part is only 20% of the O vote really pays attention to how their voter effects their lives, the other 80% don’t connect the dots at all. For the 80% low infos, voting is something you do on your day off, if there is still time after all your shopping or beer siping or facebooking is done.

I wish I could pay somebody to embroider that “KICK ME!” quote on a big wall tapestry. The imagery of that actually happening “And Nobody Outside the US will Tell Him” is completely HILARIOUS, and the thought will entertain me throughout the day!
