Gov. Jerry Brown said Wednesday that he supports raising the minimum wage in California to $10 an hour, urging lawmakers to approve a bill.
The measure would raise the minimum hourly wage from $8 to $9 on July 1, 2014, and then to $10 on Jan. 1, 2016.

Arent some union members raises tied to the raises of the minimum wage? If so, doesnt this mean that they will be getting raises three times automatically in a row?
California is too big. Either become a sovereign nation or split into four or five other states.

Actually, they do...into the ground.
Good demon rats should insist that everyone should get the same wage. Burger flippers should get the same as prevailing wage laborers, union reps, and teamster truck drivers. Why settle for a minimum wage when you can have true equality in Kalifornia.
There were natural gas shortages and Enron was gaming the system so the price had to go up, but because these rates were not allowed to rise, the blackouts were worse. To compensate, the power companies raised the rates on the other/higher tier ratepayers.
That was during the nat gas shortages in 2000-2001. It happened again during the post-hurricane Katrina nat gas shortages, except there were no blackouts.
Texas was/is like CA. The texas market was deregulated and Texas generates a high percentage of her electricity from nat gas. So the Texas rate payers were getting hit hard. But in Texas the lower tier rate payers were not protected like those in CA.
Anyway, now, there is a glut of cheap natural gas.
Do I have it right now? Calif is NOT targeting coastal cities (as the newscaster stated) but just bringing up the Low Tier rates to make up for the High Tier folks baring the brunt of past increases. If that’s right it makes sense.
