Workfare!
Up here, almost every town has a "Townfarm Road" which used to be the local solution to a local problem.
Also known as the "Poorhouse" there are still buildings remaining, where the homeless and destitute were put up with rooms, and the able bodied were expected to work on the farm, raising crops and critters for the others.
That kept the number of dregs down, as they could get better work elsewhere, kept the homeless off the streets, and provided for the truly needy.
How could the RATs improve on that self-sustaining system? They didn't, they merely destroyed that compassionate, functional institution and replaced it with....parasites.
Yep. We know some folks like that, too. I think it is actually quite common.
This Spring we gave away a couple of old lawn tractors to someone who rebuilds them. It saved us the recycling fee at the dump and gave him some parts to reuse. This same person told us of someone who had lost all their tomato plants to the cold and wet we had here in June and I was able to give him some so the gardener could replant.
You KNOW they will want "minimum wage", but including ALL BENEFITS, they will be working for ABOVE minimum wage, with all Benefits included.
“How about a bill declaring the democrat party as a seditious organization, followed by arrests and hangings for treason.”
My Dream Come True! :)
How about they ban the use of food stamps on ‘lobstah’ and ‘shrimps,’ too?
Nothin’ p*sses off this ‘Working Class Poor’ woman more than seeing someone whip out an EBT card with those LUXURIES in their cart...while I’m buying store brands, eating whatever is ON SALE that week, and clipping coupons! Grrrrr!
(OK. I’m over it. I live the way I do because I CHOOSE to. I’d rather own LAND and be beholding to no one rather than have a lobster dinner...)
Yeah, barracks, mess hall, 10 hr days, the alternative....nothing. Shouldn't make it too cushy. Otherwise there'd be no incentive to leave and get a real job.
