Clearly the officials who fined and jailed this Christian were moderates; in Saudi Arabia he would have been executed. Islamic Tolerance Alert from modern, moderate Morocco: "Moroccan Christian Jailed for 'Shaking the Faith of a Muslim,'" by Joseph DeCaro for Worthy News, September 12:

RABAT, MOROCCO (Worthy News)– A Moroccan Christian has been fined and jailed for "shaking the faith of a Muslim."

Spreading Christianity is prohibited under Article 220 of the Moroccan Penal Code; the maximum sentence for this offense is three to six months' imprisonment, but in a September hearing, Mohamed el Baldi was convicted and sentenced to two and a half years!

Baldi was arrested after his house was raided on August 28 and all his religious belongings were confiscated, according to World Watch Monitor.

Baldi, who converted to Christianity almost seven years ago, confessed that he attended Christian meetings in the towns of Meknes and Rabat.

During his hearing, Baldi's mother was said to have asked Allah to exact revenge on whoever tampered with her son's mind.

Having a population more than 99 percent Muslim, Morocco is ranked 39th on the Open Doors International World Watch List of countries where practicing Christianity is the most difficult.

U.S. Pastors Praise Morocco As Christian Serves [15 YEAR] Jail Sentence For Evangelism

http://www.worthynews.com/8320-american-pastors-praises-morocco-for-its-tolerance-while-moroccan-christian-serves-jail-sentence-for-evangelism

SNIP: // RABAT / WASHINGTON (Worthy News)– A Christian is serving 15 years in a Moroccan jail for evangelism, a Christian rights groups said, while American Christian leaders praised Morocco Thursday, June 17, for its “long history of friendship and religious cooperation.”

Jamaa Ait Bakim is currently imprisoned for “proselytizing,” a charge punishable under Moroccan law, said Washington based International Christian Concern (ICC), a major advocacy group closely following the case.

The Christian man is currently serving a 15 year sentence in Prison Centrale, located in the coastal city of Kenitra, Morocco, the group told Worthy News. Additionally, Morocco expelled at least about 100 Christian foreigners, including foster parents forced to leave their children behind, Western diplomats and aid agencies said, but other Christian sources say that figure is even higher.

ICC made the announcement just hours before the U.S. based National Clergy Council, representing church leaders from numerous Christian denominations held a press conference in the nation’s capital to present their “positive experiences in the Kingdom of Morocco over the last six years.” // (more at source)
