A law is only as good as its enforcement, and a growing number of New York sheriffs are announcing that they don’t intend to enforce the SAFE gun legislation Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law in January, PoliceOne reported.
Cuomo’s rush to make New York the first state to react in knee-jerk fashion to the tragic December shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., resulted in a highly-flawed, overly-broad law that restricts the rights of legal gun owners while doing little to address violence.
The legislation limits magazine capacities to seven rounds, prohibits the sale of certain types of semi-automatic rifles and gives current owners of such weapons one year to get them registered with the state, according to PoliceOne.
Schoharie County Sheriff Tony Desmond said he doesn’t intend to enforce the law, and that his office won’t lift a finger to make law-abiding citizens turn in their firearms.
“I’m not going back on my personal conviction,” he said. Residents have told him that is what they want, he said, and “I’ve stood up for them, and I will continue to do so.”

Cuomo said sheriffs’ job is to enforce all the laws and not cherry-pick those they want to enforce and ignore those they don’t. To do otherwise “would obviously be chaos” and “a dangerous and frightening precedent,” PoliceOne reported.

Any right thinking Sheriff knows that when the - - - - hits the fan, they can count on the law-abiding citizens to provide the additional fire power that may be needed.
It would be no precedent.

A real Sheriffs job is to Protect and Defend the Constitution of The United States.
I wonder if Cuomo is wondering what happened to that supposed 90% support of “common sense” gun control measures like they passed in NY?
Does this mean he also condemns state, county and local officials who have issued marriage credentials to same sex couples e.g. In PA in violation of state law?

This is as good a sign as there is that this nation is in fact coming apart.
Well, these sheriffs know “contrived crimes” when they see them. It’s a civil cold war now.
Actually, I have to disagree with the nation coming apart idea. The idea of enforcing legal laws only, supporting the constitution, the people standing up against tyranny...That IS our job as ‘’We The People” and the ‘consent’ of the governed. We don’t consent to tyranny and illegal laws.
The real sign that the nation was coming apart occurred when illegal laws were left without challange due to an apathetic public or one which was being blindsided.
It’s really GOOD to see Free Men...stand.
That’s the kind of thing that made this nation strong, in the first place.
No, we do NOT have to obey illegal laws. Yes we CAN challange any laws that we desire to challange because that is the right and responsibility of a free people.
Government considers such a thing ‘dangerous’, and it IS. It’s dangerous to government status quo when those who voted for them demand accountability. Governments want power..not freedom for the people.

And the people take it.
Does Cuomo ever comment on this nationally? Hmmmm? About how Obama and Holder pick the laws they want to enforce and ignore the ones they don't? Hmmmm?

The NY State Police have already demonstrated that they are willing, perhaps even eager, to enforce it.

Cuomo is a feckless horse's ass who thankfully has committed political suicide. "Son of Mario" is such a mental midget, he would be nowhere without his old man's "pull". Been riding Daddy's coattails all his life. PUTZ!!!
That will take a lot of time away from doughnut and coffee breaks. Also it may help interstate travelers if they are out chasing shadows and are not out running their speed traps for out of state cars.
