SACRAMENTO — State lawmakers Thursday night approved historic legislation that would allow unauthorized immigrants to obtain a special drivers license, but it could not be used as identification to board planes, collect public benefits or register to vote.
Gov. Jerry Brown immediately issued a statement saying he will sign the measure, which was shaped to meet his specifications.

Arnold offered to sign a bill that did the same thing almost ten years ago, and the activists turned it down because they didn’t want it to carry any indication of its restricted status. So I guess it’s some small consolation that their “great victory” consists of settling for the same deal they turned up their noses at a decade ago.
The author of AB60, Democratic Assemblyman Luis Alejo of Watsonville, was prepared to put his legislation on hold until next year because of opposition from immigrant-right groups. They had objected to a provision that calls for the licenses to be given a special designation, fearing the different look could lead to discrimination.
The legislation was revived after lawmakers persuaded some of the activists to drop their objections.

Why would an illegal get a license? They wreck, get a citation, or do someone harm, they simply pack up and move to the next state under a new name. They don’t need no stinking license. Moonbeam just sees revenue. I doubt he will make certain any are accurate in persons real name etc.

So the illegals will have driver’s licenses — and they all will be driving without insurance. This will not cut down the accident KIA and WIA body counts. However, the licenses will probably be used to get illegals registered to vote for all of the Donkeys, all of the time.

Illegal aliens lost their ability to get a driver’s license in California when Bill Clinton signed the Welfare Reform Act. California had a huge number of parents not paying their child support resulting with their children going on welfare. To fix this the government required a Social Security number when applying for a driver’s license so they could use the traceability to revoke the license for child support non-payment. A good incentive for parents to be financially responsible. A case could be made here for a violation of equal protection in that citizens will have this traceability factor with their driver’s licenses and the attached threat of revocation for non-payment of child support while illegal aliens will not.
Should we citizens demand of the DMV if illegals do not need a social security card to get drivers licenses Americans should not be required to provide one as well.
Will they be require to submit a fingerprint?
