While everyone was watching news in Colorado during the final weeks of the recalls, Mississippi was instituting a new law to allow the open carry of firearms without a concealed carry permit.
House Bill 2 was passed in Mississippi's last legislative session and signed into law by Governor Phil Bryant (R), but put on hold in July when Circuit Judge Winston Kidd issued an injunction to have the legislature "clarify it."
On August 29 the Mississippi Supreme Court "unanimously upheld the... open carry law," setting the stage for it to take effect.

Weird. Most states don’t require a permit.
Anyway, good for them.
I have yet to see one holstered.
It’s somewhat odd but several Southern states that are very CCW-friendly have tight restrictions or bans on open carry, including South Carolina, Arkansas, Florida, and Texas. My guess is that those laws may be left over from Reconstruction or be post-Reconstruction Jim Crow laws, as the Democrats didn’t want black people to be able to defend themselves.

I told you all that our Supreme Court would vote for righteous truth. I have not seen one person open carry since this law was passed but that may be because most of us have CCW permits.
This was all about the AG here... the ONLY state wide dim... and he had interpreted our Constitution as stating that any weapon was concealed if any part of it was not visible. The only legal way to hold a gun under his rules would be to put a pencil into the muzzle and holding where no part of it was concealed. Our Constitution has ALWAYS allowed open carry... but this law was needed to clarify a demonrat’s forced interpretation of that Constitutional clause.
That's correct. And, there was no CHL law in Texas until 1995, after the Republicans took effective control of the state government for the first time in over a century.
What I’ve always found ironic here in North Carolina is that there is exactly one jurisdiction in the entire state that is exempt from NC’s preemption of local firearms restrictions, and that’s Durham County (my former home for 5 years), which is majority black. Durham was grandfathered into the law when it was passed back in the ‘20s or ‘30s. Handguns in Durham must be registered, nowhere else in the state does this apply. And while NC is allegedly a shall-issue CCW state, getting a CCW permit in Durham is tougher than just about anywhere else.
It’s a leftover Jim Crow law, pure and simple. But the liberal blacks who have run Durham for 50 years want it kept on the books...despite the fact that Durham has one of the highest crime rates in the state, a massive drug and gang problem for a city its size, and these laws making criminals out of hundreds and thousands of otherwise law-abiding black citizens who just want to defend themselves from the crackheads and gangbangers.

Yep - I've seen one and nobody around him cringed in fear. I'm assuming many will continue concealed and others will let someone else find out whether LEOs are properly trained and not prone to harassment for those who decide to enjoy the Freedom of the Constitution. Talked to one oldster who claimed to see someone with a gun on his hip, "acting all big and cocky". When I asked him what the person did/said to indicate "cockiness", he had no response - I guess the gun is an emoticon to the uninformed. The gentleman never knew I was carrying - probably would have considered me to be threatening since we had just discussed Constitutional carry.
Now that's the way it SHOULD be everywhere in a "free" country (((ping))).
But what I’ve noticed in my area of Mississippi is that every single business around here has put up a sign stating they do not allow any weapons on their premises, so where are you going to open carry at, the sidewalk? There is even a place here that sells guns that won’t allow open carry. I find it very hypocritical.

Would someone please point that out to Christie and the morons in the New Jersey legislature? They don't seem to be listening to me!
The requirement for which is an INFRINGEMENT upon your Second Amendment rights, no matter how easily obtained.
I think that you are correct.

My business is not off limits. I do not see very many signs here on the Coast. Maybe because we are the crime center in Mississippi (outside of Jackson “Mogadishu” Mississippi) and most people here have always been armed.
