The reason they are taking jobs with the Administration is because they see their jobs with the media going away. Time magazine is a good example of a publication on its’ deathbed (like Newsweek).
When I was young I used to read my dad's time magazine. I remember it having a lot of informational categories. I haven't looked at it for years. But, recently I picked one up at a doctor's office and was honestly surprised to find it was thinner than some of the coupon junk mail I get. (less interesting too)
The government job are a “reward” for helping to drive the news narrative to get him re-elected in 2012.
They will return to the private sector eventually.
