Posted on 09/15/2013 8:24:57 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe
Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan offered a counterintuitive reaction to Russian President Vladimir Putins op-ed in The New York Times last week, saying that other countries are sick of hearing Americans calling themselves exceptional.
Buchanan, author of Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025? argued that Putin echoed what Obama and many Americans had said with regards to the United States as the worlds exceptional superpower.
From the hysterical reaction in this city [Washington, D.C.] to Putins op-ed piece, he put this one right down the smokestack, Buchanan said on s broadcast of The McLaughlin Group. What he did is he keyed off what Obama said on exceptionalism and he countered it with an argument which people all over the world believe. They are sick of hearing Americans talk about we are the indispensable nation, as Madeline Albright said. We see further than ours, thats why we can use force. We are the sheriff of the world, we are first, we are leaders. Hes not only appealing to the people of the world, he is appealing to that half of the United States to whom Barack Obama himself was appealing. So, I think he hit home.
I think someone should ask that commie POS Putin who it was that got to the moon first.
I fart in your general direction, Pat. GFY.
If we can get rid of the Demo-CRAPS.
About the only place people don't hear about American Exceptionalism is in America.
I'm sick of hearing that obama is president, it doesn't mean it isn't true.
I don't care what the rest of the world is sick of hearing.
America and Americans have been exceptional from the revolution until fairly recently.
Reagan believed we were exceptional.
Once we get a person (notice, I didn't say man) of Reagan's caliber back in charge, we will be exceptional again.
The American kneepad media lies, spins, and protects all those in Gov’t who want nothing more than to play a part in America's demise.
Personally, I think the world is weary of depending on a paper tiger to lead the free world.
I really don’t give a rip what the rest of the world is sick of , I am sick of their depravity and they can stfu
I wonder how many of these exceptional Americans can identify Syria on a map.
Look up Rush’s monologue on Exceptionalism.
America was the ‘exception’ as it was the only nation founded on liberty and freedom. Those characteristics made it flourish as the citizens were free.
That’s a good start. Regardless of what pat said and or why, this group of cab ers could NOT rebuild the Twin Towers, Get to the moon, nor figure out that they need to stop paying ridiculous prices for education, but their leader is strapping them with hundreds of thou per in tax debt
Their mothers are too busy to take care of these rising problems.
The world is sick of us. What are we going to do about it?
Curse? Or rise to the challenge?
Wise up. It’s been fifty years since we went to the moon, pissing off every country.
So when Hildabeast is in the White House for 8 years and Jeb Bush goes to the White House for 8 years after her, will you still proclaim America is “exceptional?”
Who gives a damn what the Luddites think.
I don’t like him, he really does not understand “freedom”.
They're sick of HEARING about American Exceptionalism. They want to SEE some.
Do I get a nickle?
With 47% of them on some sort of welfare, I’ve got to agree with them.
I was at one of the many dinner parties in the UK with socialist academics. They were always griping about the US and making me the butt of their snarky jokes (harr, frikkin’ harr). I turned to them and said, “Well, if you feel so strongly about your hatred for the US, why don’t you pressure your government to break off all ties with us a allies.” The table was silent and they looked like deer in the headlights. I wish I’d had a recording. It was epic.
Recently a student of mine had me read Bastiat’s _The Law_. In it Bastiat relates three isms socialism, communism and protectionism. I could not help but think of Buchanan who thinks himself a conservative, but who is consistently for higher taxes.
If that happens, I will die of a broken heart, to see my country stoop so low.
No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens
And he could ask, “How many decades ago was that?” And then he could say, “And now you use our rockets to go into space.”
I’m not saying America isn’t exceptional. But living off past achievements is not exceptional. Instead of talking about it all the time, we need to be exceptional and nothing will NEED to be said.
We lost our way after the end of the Cold War.
Like it or not, the Cold War gave us a sense of purpose....with it over, we seem too eager to find new monsters to fight.
Hee’s the problem, some conservatives are rushing to Obama’s defense just because Putin insulted him. Come on, let’s look at the big picture. Don’t rescue the Democrats: Hillary and Jeb, and just let them flounder. Why must we rescue the Democrats?
So you do not know either what “American exceptional”, is do you?
Death ad violence is not the answer.
Getting to the moon wasn’t about that
While we were going to the moon, check the veracity of this by any public or private school attendee of the time, we were in a serious education race.
It’s true, but forgotten
We pay lip service to education while allowing libs to take over
The United States benefitted from two things post-Cold War.
1. We were the only major industrialized country that didn’t have a good part of their infrastructure destroyed by the war.
2. A good chunk of the world was engaged in that failed experiment called “Communism” with its’ inefficient central planning.
Of course it makes sense under those conditions that we were able to eat the Worlds’ lunch. But now the rest of the world is catching up quickly.
The United States benefitted from two things post-Cold War.
Oops, that should read:
The United States benefitted from two things post-WWII.
we are losing civil liberties every day...we who work are taxed up to 60-70% of what we earn, what with SS, Medicare,Income, Property, Sales, etc...
we have homosexuals running the country and being placed in key positions including the military and justice, we have a massive govt invasion of every private communication and every private financial transaction....
what we were is not what we are now....
I'm devastated by it....but I'm accepting it more and more..OUR America...the righteous, God fearing, industrious nation we once were, is gone....
I often have strong disagreements with Pat, but to be realistic, we have not been exceptional since the 80s, although I think the real turning point was when Clinton retained his office with public support.
Since then its been nothing but crap.
Take heart though, because NONE of it was our fault. It was the libtards who destroyed America.
The American kneepad media lies, spins, and protects
It's far more than that. The "media" for the most part the old school, is an active part of the plan to subjugate America into the globalist techno authoritarian oligochracy.
Way back last century the elite class realized America would be a hard nut to crack towards creating their feudal utopia. You had a whole nation weaned on individualism and rich in resources. They knew it would be a long haul to achieve their ends, but they believe (probably correctly) that they are close, so close they can almost touch it.
All roads lead to their desired end. Education; watered down and diluted to their ends. Wealth; tightly constrained in accumulation unless you already have it, or are co opted to their side. Self perpetuating unlegislated regulation. The erosion of property rights, the constant assault on the Second Amendment, and many other avenues of attack.
They walk on eggshells now, because they're SOOOoooo close. They walk on eggshells but want the endgame to come quickly, a lot of the architects are old and want to see their poison fruit ripen before they shuffle off to hell.
I believe that's one of the reasons for the frenzied Second Amendment attacks now, the elites want this done with, but they are also terrified of the beast they will awaken if they bring everything crashing down hard rather than softly. They know if the wheels come off of America and the residual, individualist Republic lovers come out of the chaos winning, that they will be hunted like rabid dogs and it will be a millennia before their parasitic families, secret societies, and cabals can regroup and try to start the process over...
AND we’re engaging in that experiment called communism
Don’t get me wrong. conservatives ARE exceptional, but we are outnumbered by left wing nutjobs, passive idiots, and RINOS like Karl Rove.
And we could point out how OUR technology made his rockets. We should also point out to the puke that if wasn’t for us he’d be speaking german.
And I care because...
Oh wait, I don’t.
I’d point out also that countries who gained independence at that time and did not become communist were rife with corruption and disorder, something we did not have to deal with.
"Our Germans are better than their Germans, Senator."
The constitution is what made America exceptional. We are unmoored from it right now.
I am 74 and never heard of american exceptionalism until about 1 1/2 years ago....who started it...
Buchanan is right. The days of American exceptionalism are behind us now. I mean, look at what occupies the freaking White House. America elected the African communist scumbag. And re-elected him! Then there’s John F’n Kerry, Joe Biden, a feminized, faggotized military, and a nation barreling towards the mediocrity of a weak, European socialist welfare state. Yikes, is Buchanan ever right. And so is Putin.
He has a point in that as a nation we really aren’t exceptional any more. I think if push came to shove, there’s probably enough Americans who could make a good account for ourselves, but overall we’ve become lethargic, fat, flaccid and anything but exceptional. That decline didn’t take long.
Who are the most famous Americans today?
Snoop Dogg (or whatever he calls himself now)
This is America to the rest of the world these days.
Pat Buchanan is right, as usual.
