Back in 1975 I had a chance to fly a little with HMX-1, which, along with supporting the Quantico Marine Base’s other organizations, flies the Presidential “White Top” helos. I made a flight to Anacostia as co-pilot with one of the Presidential pilots to drop off parts for the standby VH-3 Presidential aircraft located there.

We were in an HMX-1 helo, Presidential pilot in command. I was an active duty USMC officer, Intelligence Officer with my home squadron and CH-53 pilot. However, the security at Anacostia was so tight that while I was allowed to get out of the aircraft to do a walk-around post flight inspection, I was not allowed to leave the immediate area of our aircraft.

I was thinking about that today and had a thought about having our Military
walking around armed on American soil. No. At the min they need some serious security
to meet the nuts head on, terrorist or not. Where are all the MP's is the question.

It wasn’t in the least silly or unreasonable to have posted the thread. The thought of Bolling occurred to me even before the rumor began. Unfortunately, the rumor made sense,given the geography. Bolling is a very quick 15 minute drive from the Navy Yard.
