This high school is teaching kids a different version of the Second Amendment

A Texas high school is using a textbook that changes the wording of the Second Amendment to weaken gun rights.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

But at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas, an Advanced Placement U.S. History textbook has rewritten the Second Amendment as: “The people have a right to keep and bear arms in a state militia.”

The AP version of the Second Amendment may be easier for students to remember, but its text appears to weaken the protections afforded to gun owners in the Bill of Rights.

“The textbook’s version implies that only state-sanctioned police or military forces are allowed to carry a gun, which is neither correct, nor the intention of the founders,” according to Rare, a conservative website.

The wording of other amendments is also changed. The textbook says that the First Amendment prohibits Congress from favoring one religion over another, when in fact it says that Congress shall make no law “respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

An article on The Daily Paul asked conservative parents to demand answers from the school district’s board of trustees.

The trustees of Denton Independent School District did not respond to requests for comment.

The textbook has received highly negative reviews on Amazon.com.

I bet it would be really surprising to see how many people think “separation of church and state” is in the Constitution. I guess some think it is there by inference but I sure can’t find it.

The first amendment says the government cannot interfere in your faith it does not say churches can’t mention political matters.

It says the government cannot interfere with religion and that the Congress shall not establish a religion. For instance “The Church of the United States” in the manner of Scotland’s “Church of Scotland” or Presbyterian Church.

Amen to that. I have seen some of those meetings on TV. The libs get their panties in a wad. You can almost see the steam coming out of their ears. Saw some of them get up and stomp out because they weren’t getting their way.

I can’t remember all the stuff, but one of things they wanted was to quit with all the teaching of the early American History.

They wanted to start with more like the Woodrow Wilson period forward with emphasis on progressive type milestones - all to make it more relevant for the children doncha know?

I’d be interested to know exactly how this text came to be in use. There’s no doubt a money trail of some kind some where.

Young residents thrive in the arts and music scene while families ....

You found a load of BS written by some limp-wrist who is attempting to depict the universities as havens for liberals. Not true.

Denton is part of the DFW Metroplex. I earned my BBA at NTSU (now UNT), which has a great business school and also covers the various sciences, including meteorology.

Back to topic....... It’s disgusting that such a textbook could have been approved for use in high schools, with such glaring errors. ....The books should be removed NOW.

We do the best we can in Texas to give us truthful textbooks and that means your state gets truthful textbooks, too. You can fault our Texas system if you want, but I know it works as well as one could.

Very good overall posting, Marcella. I recall watching the TX textbook board on TV a couple of years ago when a liberal female member threw a rant and walked out because the majority would not accept her preferred language.

The leftist schools get around the SBOE, they can add their own material and recommended reading lists. For a while they were doing their own curriculum through CSCOPE but that has apparently been put under SBOE recently.

Public schools are public schools, it does not matter where they are located.

When I was a freshman in HS we had a Civics class that was mandatory. .......In addition to textbooks, each student should be required to have one of the pocket sized books of the Constitution... and be tested on the contents!

That might help the kids to better recognize in later grades and college (if they go) when the texts and teachers are not telling the truth.

The problem is what will this liberal school version of the Constitution say and what will leftist biased the test ask?

I sense that the books will be removed before long.

the parents of the kids at said school will have to be at the forefront of the movement to do so.
