Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen blamed opposition to gun control on voters affinities for guns and the Bible on Wednesday in an MSNBC appearance.
I got the vitriol from on the Twitter from all these people who opposed that cartoon, said Cohen, who tweeted a cartoon that appeared to blame the National Rifle Association for the Navy Yard shooting spree on Tuesday. They are hardcore Republicans. This I think means more to them than I think their guns are right there next to their Bibles. Im not sure which they find more important to them.
Cohens remarks bear a strong resemblance to comments made by President Barack Obama in 2008 at a California fundraiser, where he explained that economic downturns pushed bitter Pennsylvania voters to cling to guns or religion a point co-host David Corn quickly made.
Corn also asked if opposition to disarming private citizens was a cultural matter that cant really be broken by simple politics.
Corns question prompted Cohen to blame guns and the Bible for primary challenges to moderate establishment Republicans.
Its been that way for a while, and it certainly is in the Republican caucus, Cohen said. These people are afraid to get primaried, which they would. And you see Lamar Alexander, whos a reasonable Republican, now has a right-wing opponent in his primary in my state. Mitch McConnell has one in Kentucky. Rich Luger, one of the stars of the Senate, was defeated by a right-winger, so its around, and its difficult. And it is guns, and the Bible.
Bumpersticker....
“I keep my gun next to my bible
and a copy of the Constitution.”
We wish that Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen would explain his affinity to the killing of 60 million defenseless babies, and his affinity to death panels, and same sex marriage. Does Steve Cohen believe that men and women are interchangeable? Does Steve Cohen believe that our military should be armed? If yes, why are our domestic bases gun free zones? (technically ammunition free zones)?
Why is Steve Cohen obsessed with taking guns away from law abiding, tax paying citizens? Can Steve Cohen connect the dots between reduced crime rates and guns? High crime rates correlate with strict gun control laws such as being exhibited in Chicago and Washington, DC.
Government and Dictators have killed millions more humans than our armed citizenry. The results of the 2008 election shows the need of stronger background checks for our elected officials.
Guns and bibles are co-equal in importance. You can't fight a dictator without a gun and without the Bible, you won't have the resolve to do it.
This is why dictators get rid of guns and religion first.
great minds my friend, great minds....
Cohen probably goes home and dresses in a knock off of Michelle’s inaugural dress and dances with his Obama love doll.
Keep up the fire, friend.
Got to preach to the choir, been kicked off the liberal sites
That's good! I'm going to have to remember that one.
All I have to offer in trade right now is: "crazier than a rat in a tin sh!thouse during a hail storm", which you are welcome to provided you do not already have it.
Actually, I can’t claim the rhesus monkeys .... that’s an oldie from the 50’s or even the 40’s, belonged to the Great Generation.
