Raising the debt ceiling doesn't increase the nation's debt, Pres. Obama declared in a speech today...

Obama dismissed concerns about raising the debt ceiling by noting that it'd been done so many times in the past:

...

Obama went on to suggest that "the average person" mistakenly thinks that raising the debt ceiling means the U.S. is racking up more debt:

Liberals believe that whatever a liberal says is the truth. If you can stomach it, watch someone call a liberal on a fact and their only response is always “That’s not true.”

That is true. Raising the ceiling does not increase the deficit or the debt. Borrowing more money does that. Raising the debt ceiling does not borrow more money. It does enable the borrowing of more money and the chance that more money will not be borrowed is nil.

No, he is right. It is a “debt limit”. Raising it does not actually add one dime to the debt.

It is the spending that raises the debt. The limit theoretically should make it illegal to DO the spending, but saying “raising the debt limit” adds to the debt is like saying that raising the speed limit makes cars go faster.

He lies like a Stalinist. It was what is commonly known as “Orwellian” but what George Orwell was a Socialist who wrote about was his frustrations in dealing with Stalinists in the West who would absolutely refuse to denounce any action by Stalin.

They can change their song the next day but they will deny what they said yesterday. Thus Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie were out protesting AGAINST the US going to war against NAZI German, and then after Hitler’s betrayal of Stalin AND the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Woody’s guitar “suddenly” kills fascists. Imagine that. It took Pete another 40 years to concede that Joe Stalin had done some bad things. Red Asner is still wanting to shine more light on the “other things” Uncle Joe accomplished. The good deeds.

he’s not wrong. raising the debt ceiling will not increase our debt...

raising the ceiling allows the fedgov to actually spend the money, without paying back old debts, thereby jacking up new debt and diminishing the value of the dollar

seriously, does ANYONE listen to democrats when it comes to economic policy?

EVERY democrat giving a speech on economic policies should have a picture of detroit hanging over their podium

The dude just needs to wear a sign that says, “LIAR” and that’s all you need to know

Certainly he is a liar, but I do believe that when he talks about economics, he is stating his honest understanding because he is an ignorant leftist twit who knows nothing about how wealth and prosperity is created.

All he knows is the commie horse-sh!t that he has been surrounded with his whole life.

Obama went on to suggest that "the average person" mistakenly thinks that raising the debt ceiling means the U.S. is racking up more debt.

Well, NOT raising the debt ceiling will PREVENT the accumulation of more debt. What do you say to that, asshat clintonian word-parser?

C’mon! Some of you actually don’t think Zero is lying? That he doesn’t plan on spending any money that he can get his mitts on?

“Fraud is generally defined in the law as an *intentional* misrepresentation of material existing fact made by one person to another with knowledge of its falsity and for the purpose of inducing the other person to act, and upon which the other person relies with resulting injury or damage. Fraud may also be made by an omission or purposeful failure to state material facts, which nondisclosure makes other statements misleading.”

Zero and his fellow frauds, and Those RINOs Whose Names We Don’t Mention in the GOP-e, want the debt limit raised.
Why do they want it raised? So they can spend less money? Gimme us a break! And have a little respect for us, even if you don’t have any for yourselves, if you’re quibbling over whether or not he’s lying.

He is telling the truth with the intent to deceive. Raising the debt ceiling does not increase the debt. But there is NO reason to increase the debt ceiling unless you WANT to raise the debt.

The POTUS wants to raise the debt ceiling this time to continue spending and raising the debt. Bringing up the outside possibility that you may want to waste time passing the legislation to raise the debt ceiling, without wanting to continue deficit spending is SILLY.

He really is not a very funny or silly person...ergo...

This is a funny story considering the FED is propping up the stock market at $85 billion/month of Quantitative Easing, another intent to deceive.

He is correct. Raising the debt ceiling does not increase the national debt.

Borrowing more money........ issuing Treasury bonds and bills increases the debt.

He did not say that the borrowing that follows the ceiling increase does not increase the debt.

It does if not raising the debt ceiling would stop non-essential spending, because there is no authority to borrow the additional money.

I’m glad 0bama explained it. I don’t know why I thought if I increased my debt I was increasing my debt. I feel so stupid now that the Idiot in Chief made it so clear. Well I gotta go to the EZ Cash store and borrow $10,000.00 for 30 days. Then I’ll borrow $20,000.00 to pay of the $10,000.00 and still have $10,000.00 for that vacation. Then I’ll borrow... Nope I’m not worried about the interest or ever paying it back, because I understand Ubamanomics now that he explained it. I am no longer an Average American. I am an Obrainiac! I will rule the world now!!!!
