McCain tells Russian people 'Putin rules for himself' in Pravda op-ed
Fox News ^ | September 19, 2013

Senate Republican John McCain, one of the most vocal advocates for American military intervention in the crisis in Syria, is firing back after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s op-ed in the New York Times last week, in which the Russian chastised Americans for considering a military strike in Syria and slammed the notion of American exceptionalism.

In an op-ed submitted to the Russian newspaper Pravda, McCain tells the Russian people that Putin "rules for himself, not you." The piece was posted on the paper's website, Pravda.ru, shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, Moscow time.

He also says that although he has been characterized in the Russian media as “anti-Russian” over the years, he believes he is more pro-Russian than the Putin regime, which he says “misrules” its people.

McCain tells Russian citizens they deserve to live in a society where they can live freely and in accordance with the “inalienable rights” enjoyed by Americans under the Constitution.

“President Putin doesn’t believe in these values because he doesn’t believe in you,” McCain writes. “He doesn’t believe that human nature at liberty can rise above its weaknesses and build just, peaceful, prosperous societies. Or, at least, he doesn’t believe Russians can. So he rules by using those weaknesses, by corruption, repression and violence."

McCain also addresses Putin’s alliance with Syrian President BasharAssad, saying Russians deserve a leader who will not fight on the side of a brutal dictator who carried out a chemical weapons attack against his own people. He says Putin’s allegiance to Assad is hurting Russia’s international stature.

McCain had better be careful. Manyu prominent press or political officials and others have gotten the polonium or ricin “treatment” or have been in “car accidents” for being uberly publically critical of Putin. McCain going directly to the Russian people won’t play well and Putin or his security folks may respond!

Strangely, his sins as a KGB man and supporter of Communism and the Gulag are forgiven; he can arm the enemies of peace and Security for the money he can get from it, and be called a staunch enemy of al Qaeda

Putin doesn't support Communism but he understands its corrosive nature from first hand experience. In fact he's been a supporter of free market capitalism for a long time (despite the klepto-capitalist origins of Russia's current system), and has made several significant speeches to that effect on the international stage.

His rhetoric on economics is largely overlooked by the political and chattering classes in the United States, primarily because Putin accurately and unflinchingly lays the blame for the 2008 world financial crisis at the feet of the corrupt and broken American banking/political system, of which "leaders" like McCain and Obama are a mediocre byproduct.

Yes, there is something very special about being a former communist KGB thug that gives one unique insights into the commie system and the capitalist one. As an apologia for President for Life Putin, yours is unique.

What the hell planet does McLaim live on?... our rights are constantly under attack by the president HE said would be a good president, if elected, back in the 08 election. Plus it took him over a week to write this Op Ed... took Putin less than 24 hrs to get his submitted at the NYT.

I think it’s less that Putin has a fan club and more that Obama is Just. That. Bad.

Yes, that’s true. Was he always anti-Homo? No one knows. I mean he was anti-capitalist, too. Maybe he was pro-Gay at one time. He was a KGB commie then too, but now he’s just another fine fellow supporting the Russian banks. Now, too, apparently, he’s not a crony capitalist President for Life heading up a country filthy rich in natural resources with 80% of the people living in poverty. No, he’s suddenly swell idealist supporter of the UN, despite his invasion of the Republic of Georgia (not UN approved), and his previous deviant lifestyle as a KGB man. Still I get it. He’s scapegoating all Russia’s problems on the fags and bashing the man child Obama, and for some that’s about all that’s needed, especially for the dilettantes who praise him.

Believe it or not, we have a few FReepers who, for all practical purposes, appear that they are posting straight from the Kremlin.

Just imagine if we got our “wish,” and elected a strongman in the Putin-mold. Would we praise him for being anti-homo? He would have that going for him. /s

I see it everyday. If you deal with classified information, you’re warned about people who out of a perverted sense of ideology cannot be trusted to support the US government. I suspect that some of these posters would give Putin and any other crank our secrets. As for me, my love of America, our constitution, our way of life, our eccentricities, transcends any idiot president. I loved America under Carter, Clinton, and this current bozo. God Bless the USA. Screw Putin.

I hold Vlad in fairly high regard. He found himself elected to be Mayor of Detroit. His nation had failed. His task was to discover and then implement processes to build a nation

i’m not certain he has been successful but he apparently has reversed the trends. The population is no longer declining. Young women or at least some young women have enough faith in the future to resume having babies.

His encounter with Obama is a freebie of fantastic importance. Vlad gets immense credit and prestige by mostly outwitting and staying a head of a fool. It is not hard. We do it everyday here on Free Republic, but compared to Vlad’s, our stage is tiny, lacking the whole world as the audience.

A judo master, Vlad sees the blow coming, dodges and zap....... Barack is on the ground with his ass exposed.
His trusty long faced second, who by the way served in Vietnam, rather than throw in the towel lights a gas fire in the water bucket and warms his cold feet.

McCain attempted to repress political speech with McCain/Feingold. McCain was involved in corruption in the Keating 5. Mccain ally’s himself with terrorists in the Muslim Brotherhood and wants to topple MidEast govts using the US military...that’s violence.

Most of what McCain said about Putin is true, but talk about being the wrong messenger. For the reasons you note and many more, it's the case of the pot calling the kettle black.

McCain tells Russian citizens they deserve to live in a society where they can live freely and in accordance with the “inalienable rights” enjoyed by Americans under the Constitution.

Now if only McCain and his fellow Republicans would apply to same zeal to defending the rights of AMERICAN citizens to live freely according our inalienable rights under the Constitution. Where was McCain when we got the Patriot Act? Oh, that's right, he was supporting it.
