Poll: Republican voters have embraced libertarian values
United Liberty ^ | 9/12/13 | Jason Pye

The libertarian philosophy is taking the Republican Party by storm, according to a poll conducted by FreedomWorks, a DC-based grassroots service center with over 6 million members.

With Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) and many other liberty-minded politicians gaining influence, libertarianism has generated new interest inside the Republican Party, much to the chagrin of the GOP's political establishment....

"FreedomWorks' poll shows that 42 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of the word ‘libertarian,' and only 10 percent don't know the word, compared to 27 percent who don't know nationally," they added.

And the term "libertarian" may still turn off some Republican voters, the basic message of the philosophy earns significant favor. The poll found that 68% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents agree with the statement that "individuals should be free to do as they like as long as they don't hurt others, and that the government should keep out of people's day-to-day lives."

What's more, an eye-popping 78% of Republicans consider themselves to be "fiscally conservative, but socially moderate," which is a significant finding given the debate in the GOP on social issues.

Looking outside of just the Republican box, the poll found that 66% of respondents consider themselves to fiscally conservative and socially moderate.

These numbers show that the libertarian message is appealing, not only to Republican voters, but also to all Americans; further advancing the case for conservative-libertarian fusionism as a way to promote free market ideals, limited government, and personal liberty....

this thread was on here a week ago.

Also if one wants to get rid of the CIA, FBI, have no sex age laws, get rid of all drug laws, allow public sex, nudity, sell drugs outside schools, open borders, small military, sex with animals, have incest, beastiality and homosexuality taught in schools etc then fine but that is more to do with anarchists and radical liberals, hell even most liberals will not go that loony.

Some folks hear it and their brain just shuts down and they yell incoherently.

Amen!!!

"Liberal" was corrupted beyond recognition. Today's "conservative" bears little resemblance to what we were in the 60's/70's. Now, people have this bizarre caricature of libertarianism that has no relation to the actual cause.

If you think the name calling is bad here, check what lefties say about libertarianism! Whenever the word comes up, people just scream names. That shows times are finally changing.

Dude, I’m not having that discussion again. Reagan was not in favor of gay marriage, I’m not in favor of gay marriage and most libertarians are not in favor of gay marriage.

The people in favor of gay marriage are the ones who want government to be involved.

Gay marriage was created by government.

Libertarians warned you about this, but you big government establishment types didn’t listen.

me thinks, that Reagan was not for homosexuality, sex with animals, have public sex with kids aged 14 years old, allow all drugs, get rid of the FBI, CIA , smaller military which only stays in America etc.

Course I could be wrong but I seriously doubt Reagan was for all that.

Weird you say that because many libertarians have said that have no problem with any kind of marriage even with animals and it was communists which pushed homosexuality to be normal .

they can be as “socially moderate” as they want, but the reason those values are part of the conservative message is because they prevent harm to individuals, groups, communities, culture.

Libertarians, like Glenn Beck, are in favor of gay marriage. Nobody is fooled by denials. And why do they favor it? Because they have the same goal as the homo perverts, the destruction of the institution of marriage which is the bedrock of civilization.

Just like libertarians are in favor of amnesty, open borders, abortion at any date, drug use and sex for/with anyone and abolition of the age of consent.

They won’t usually admit to it openly but here and there they do.

The anti-civilization crowd is a leftist-libertopian coalition

think liberaltarians sound great when they shout no Govt, more freedom etc.

Course ask a few questions, delve a little into their minds and it become obvious what they’re pushing is perverted and sick.

Sex with 14 year olds in front of a school for all to see, sex with animals, all kinds of marriage, no CIA, FBI, on borders, drugs galore, no drinking and riving laws, no driving under drugs, no speed limits, no stop signs, no nothing but anarchy.
Hell I had one guy tell me to make incest legal , under age sex legal and why have crime laws.

Thankfully the sicko was banned

So my idea for a store selling moonshine, marijuana, methamphetamine, and machine guns located between the Pentecostal Church and the nursing home, across the street from the elementary school troubles your mind?

Interestingly, there are also great dangers in the drugs used in the nursing home, the dumbing down and socialism done in the school, and the snakes and strychnine fooled with in the church.

Stop looking to the government to keep you safe or save your soul. The only purposes of the government are to enforce property rights and protect our borders.

YOU CANNOT ENFORCE MORALITY!

Moderate is just a nice way to say “liberal.”

I agree.

Now we are suppose to embrace the "anything goes crowd" and disregard 4,000 years of Judeo-Christian history. We are supposed to throw out God given quidelines on how we are supposed to live and replace it with "as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else it's fine".

If one prisoner has lice, that’s not a problem for the rest of the prison, is it?

If that’s what he wants, then leave him alone.

You and your little 44 second 1970s video where Reagan uses the catchy word of the time, libertarian (once) and then proceeds to explain his conservatism.

Reagan was a conservative and not a libertarian, he made that clear in his 1975 interview with the libertarian magazine while he was campaigning, first Reagan said something friendly about their common path on economics, and then he proceeded to argue against their social leftism and liberalism in regards to national defense.

I don’t think Ronald Reagan would be celebrating gay marriage and bringing kids to pot festivals.

No, that generation was a little more straight laced than that. Even Lyn Nofziger said he didn't hang out with the Reagans because they didn't drink enough for his liking.

The issue is that there are differences between leaning or being Libertarian in ideology, being a supporter of the Libertarian Party and being an Anarchist (traditional sense, not the kiddies who put on black masks and loot Starbucks to show their opposition to globalism.)

Unfortunately the three tend to be lumped together, deliberately, in order to undermine the ability to find enough common ground between the Libertarian-leaning and Conservatives to win elections on commonsense themes like limited government, privacy and individual rights and liberties.

I am personally socially conservative but I don’t think these issues are any of the government’s business.

What party does that put me in?
