African-American middle school students were forced to act as slaves, pretending to be sold at auction and standing in the darkness of a would-be slave ship, all while enduring racial epithets, a human rights lawsuit filed by a student’s mother claims. Nature’s Classroom in Charlton, Massachusetts has been running this reenactment for many years. Jon Santos, the director of Nature’s Classroom, told The Washington Post that the three-hour exercise was meant to teach students empathy for what slaves were put through, along with lessons about modern day bullying. He denied that racial slurs were part of the curriculum, saying that any employee who uttered such a remark would be fired. The program has been in place for 18 years, he said.

Nothing like prepping kids to be voter/tax slaves.
Think about it. If you spend all night chasing the slaves through the woods and beating them, how are you going to get the crops in?
Aside from representing a substantial investment, only a slave in good health, well rested, and with reasonably good morale will be productive as a laborer. This implies a far better relationship between the owners and the slaves than revisionist histories would have one believe. Some owners even risked breaking the law to educate their slaves, not out of the goodness of their heart, but because it suited their own purposes.
Some, when freed, took the owner's family name as a surname, with the permission and blessing of the former owners. That does not imply hatred nor animosity.
If the relationship was as fraught with animosity as is commonly now portrayed, there would have been a lot of dead owners out there, and little would have been accomplished.
As for the teachers, sue the sh*t out of them. Slavery has been dead for a century and a half, and child abuse is not justified over the issue.
While I am not in favor of slavery, and this may sound cruel, but American blacks should learn that it was slavery that gave them life in the USA. Otherwise, they would be in some African hell-hole, chucking spears.
For white Americans it led to something of an unintended travesty.
The more I read of Southern US history, the more I see that there was more white on white slavery than white on black slavery.

Slavery is our great burden but a price has already been paid in blood to over come that. It is time we were completely honest about all of those times. Your points are well taken and certainly upheld by the facts. Not all Southerners (or even Americans) were slave holders. More were not than were. Not all were cruel.
No living person EVER was a slave in the US (except to the government tax man).
This three hour exercise was designed to teach the young to hate.
They would have as likely been sold elsewhere, certainly not as nice as America. Their own people sold them in slavery as often as not. Who hasn't heard the story of the princess who sold her people off until there were not enough for the slavers? They took her last.
At least they didn’t model an abortion clinic.
How interesting that this annual slavery ritual occurs in two New England states. If this had occurred in SC, AL or MS, enlightened liberal New England residents would be screaming from their rooftops and Congress critters would have legislated a ban on the activities.
It's not surprising. This map clearly shows where slavery today is enforced by union goons. The South is free from such coercion. New England and the entire Northeast is under the thumb of 21st Century slavery.
I'll add that the South was ahead of the curve starting in 1964 when the twin tyrannies of socialism and unionism were soundly rejected by the Deep South, choosing a candidate standing for liberty and freedom for all:
The notion that nobody has complained in the past, as justification for future events, seems short sighted at best. There was obviously a disconnect between expectation, though I reserve further commentary until after discovery.
If I could go back in time to the moment someone first thought of bringing slaves here. I would put a bullet in their head.
Blame the mooselimbs, they're the group who institutionalized slavery. And the labor union thugs are the ones keeping it going today, arm in arm with their Islamist allies.
