Actually, she was born in Hamburg (West Germany). Her father was a pastor who relocated the family to the east in the early 1950s before the Wall went up. They got stuck there and her formative years were East German. Don't know if her birth place influenced her much as regards today.
One would hope that having experienced socialism first hand, she would know some things not to do. The fall of the wall was like a release from prison for most Ossies.

CDU should form a coalition with the Greens. SDP would have too much power.
