On Friday, the House of Representatives passed a bill that basically funds the government but defunds Obamacare. The vote was predictably down party lines with only one Republican voting no and two Democrats voting in favor. Now the ball is in the Senates court and it is expected that they will bounce the defunding measure right out of the bill.
There has been a shift within the last few months within the GOP as well as the Democrat parties. Both know that the American people do not like Obamacare. Every day they see what is coming at them, and they are voicing their concerns to Congress.
Many Republican House members that were content to just let the law take effect and then deal with it later are now being pressured to stop it before the October 1 deadline.Democrats are feeling the heat as well, especially now that the Unions have come out against it, and Obama himself, has changed it! The Republicans have a split party that needs to come together, and some of the vulnerable Democrats are deathly afraid of Reid and Pelosi, so they suck it up and vote party lines.
The House GOP seemed to stand together with the Friday vote, but the question remains, who will stand strong in the Senate?Yes, we know that the die-hards will be there. The Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Rand Paul group will do everything in their power to save us, but how about the others that are weak-kneed and listening to the whispers of fear and ghosts of 96 that the old guard are feeding them? They seem to be more concerned about where the blame will be placed if the government is shut down.
Instead of standing strong and doing the right thing, they are vacillating and worried about people bad-mouthing them and losing seats in the 2014 elections.News flash:Stand for what you believe in or not, you will still be crucified by the President, the Democrat party, and the media; and if you cave, you will just prove to your constituents that they were right, Congress doesnt fight for them.Lets face it, you are damned if you do and damned if you dont, so go ahead and stand for something!
It is very possible that this situation may turn out differently than the politicians, media and pundits expect. The American people are so used to hearing the fear-mongering over shutdowns, sequesters and the like, that they are tuning it out. They know that nothing ever happens when this doom and gloom is predicted.Life goes on, the government continues to function (perhaps with a few hiccups, but nothing major), and somehow we all keep going. We all know that one of these crisis crop up every six months to a year and its now becoming like Chicken Little screaming about the sky falling no one pays attention.
The Republicans in the Senate have to make the decision.Do they stand with the members in the House and the American people or do they fold like a house of cards?Either way Harry Reid will still do whatever he has to do to throw it back into the laps of the Republican House because he wants the Republicans to be blamed for everything. Reid is depending on all of his soldiers being in lock-step with him on this, but wouldnt it be amazing if a few of the more vulnerable ones decided to break ranks and actually vote their constituents wishes?
But I digress. The time will run out, the media will be in a frenzy, Obama will predict disaster for the children, the poor and the downtrodden, and it will all sound like Charlie Browns school teacher wha..wha wha. Realistically, only those of us who hang on to every word these politicians say will care.
The American people overwhelmingly do not want Obamacare and at the same time they expect their government to work.So figure it out Congress.
Senate Republicans - dont be the first to blink.Grow a spine, be the grown up in the room, dont succumb to bullying and name calling and what-ifs.If you do that, we just might see you as the party we once knew.
Another one.
No matter who blinks first, those that blink WILL be smoked out.
The RINO’s...the same group that caved during the government shutdown in 1995 and gave Clinton a win.
Lemme see now:
A.) Shut down the non-essential, spendaholic Federal Government until the sorry spendaholic Federal politicians give up; or
B.) Shut down and destroy America by approving the funding of Americas death knell Obamacare; or
C.) Be very, very fearful of what the Democrats Liberal Agenda Media MIGHT say and write about old-style Republicans who have always before caved in to Democrats?
Think, think, think - - - - .
With the defunding battle uncertain, maybe the BEST way to repeal Obamacare is to force those who passed it, forced it on us and now seem to want NO PART of it, to also participate in it. Sens. Paul, Cruz, Lee and all GOP, please offer an amendment to the CR, that if the Senate Democrats insist on funding Obamacare, they also SHALL be subject to its rules, and ALL OTHER laws they pass!
1. The GOP
2. The GOP
3. The GOP
4. The GOP
and
5. The GOP
Even if Reid decides to strip “defunding” from the House Bill, he has to count on all Democrats (or 51 of them) to do so. Seems this is the real Pandora’s Box for the Democrats. If they vote to put funding back into ObamaCare, they are effectively saying “We want this to stay forever”. However, 23 of those Senate Democrats are facing voters next year and many of those 23 are in Red States that Romney won. The last thing they want is a recent record of their commitment to ObamaCare. These Democrats MIGHT have been able to feign ignorance about the consequences of ObamaCare when they first passed it and we didn’t know what was in it. With all of the law’s disastrous consequences now a matter of public record, no such ignorance is even plausible. They want NO part of debates with Republican rivals in campaigns where they have to defend the disasters they voted for - twice. The fact the House voted as it did was - in my opinion - the REAL reason the Senate Democrats and their Progressive Republican bedfellows - is the true source of the consternation all around. These elected officials are now going to be forced to deal with their constituents in real terms. They won’t be able to spin their vote for ObamaCare as an error, much less as something beneficial to hordes of voters who know otherwise. The Left & Progressive Right may concentrate on trying to trash Cruz, but it’s these 23 Senate Democrats who are in the box. They have to vote for this again to keep it alive - which could well destroy their reelect chances 14 months from now.
Ted Cruz never blinks. If they don’t know it it is probably just this that drives them crazy about him and what appeals to those who want them all to do their jobs
1) ALL 45 of them have already voted for it once, in March, 2013!!; and
2) It is almost certain the Supreme Court will take up this issue in the coming year and it is an entirely reasonable position for the feckless GOPe weasels to say that the 0bamacare funding should be put on hold pending the resolution of the case that will soon be before the SCOTUS.
meh...and then re-elected.
Just watch.
Blink? The Republicans in the Senate have their eyes tightly closed, hoping this will go away.
will?
the GOP leaders have ALREADY blinked.
McCain HATES AND LOATHES the rank and file members. He despises Cruz because it disturbes his officer’s club/country club.
The rest of the GOP “leaders” are suckers for the effete media. (perhaps because so many are in physical relationships with reporters)
I spoke to Rubio’s office and thanked him for support but ask that he GET OUT THERE.....girl on the phone was almost giddy?!?
When the gov’t “shuts down” they still take taxes out of my paycheck, so the definition is flawed.
We live without them on weekends and holidays....a few weekdays would be great. Longer the better.
Cruz rules!
The people who are not working to defeat Obamacare are standing in the Middle of the tracks and staring at the train bearing down on them.
There will be no jumping aside once it gets there.
Not only that but I remember the 1995 to 1996 shutdowns (there were three) ended with the CR that Clinton Demanded that included back pay for all those affected.
In some cases those same Fed workers were paid overtime to catch up on top of the back pay, it cost more to shutdown.
At the time I had a friend (Maryland) who got her GS job Fall 1995 and she got all three weeks off fully paid and a fourth for the January blizzard. And no she didnt get laid off later when 'Newt forced Clinton to balance the budget'. None of trhem were.
Newt and Rush conveniently forget that in their romantic re-telling of the drama, but it looked real bad at the time.
You need to call NELSON’S office also!! The Dems need as many phone calls as the Pubbies do!!
I did...cold reception LOL
