Superdads! Couple adopts 14 kids from foster care (Gay Couple)
Today NBC ^ | September 23, 2013 | Jasmin Aline Persch

Steven and Roger Ham couldn’t have predicted they’d one day foot a $1,500 monthly grocery bill, drive a 15-passenger van, and do four loads of laundry a day — but that’s what life now looks like for the couple, as they raise more than one dozen kids from the foster care system.

“It was never our intent to adopt 14 children,” Steven Ham told TODAY.com, of the parenting journey that started a decade ago.

When the Hams first set out to adopt, they excitedly formed a mental picture of their future child: the one baby they'd bring into their home. But their family quickly diverged from what they originally imagined.

It all started with Michael, in 2003. Child Protective Services sent the Hams to meet the 5-year-old, who was living in a group home, so that the couple could consider adopting him. In a whisper, Michael confided to Steven and Roger that he was beaten up because he was the littlest. Steven’s heart broke.

“He’s been with us ever since,” he said.

After he was adopted, Michael revealed that he was worried about how his four younger siblings were doing, who he’d helped feed and clothe before foster care split them up. Inspired by Michael's devotion to his family members, the Hams vowed to try to keep them together.

A call to CPS led to a poignant reunion for Michael with two of his younger siblings, 4-year-old Elizabeth and 3-year-old Andrew.

“Tears were rolling down these kids’ faces,” Steven said. “What child at three, four and five has tears of joy?”

The Hams soon adopted both Elizabeth and Andrew, and found they couldn’t ignore the children’s pleas to see their other siblings, 2-year-old twins, Jackson and Madison. The couple ultimately adopted the twins, and by 2004, they had five children.

While I'm sure they love and provide for these children, I believe children should grow up in a home with a mother and father.

I'm not. Perverts have a very poor track record as parents.

Hopefully CPS will check up every week to see what is being done to these helpless kids.

Not if they adopted the kids. Monthly subsidies stop after adoption.

Any boys that they “adopted” might want to look up “NAMBLA” on Google.

In a broken world these two gay guys are doing a great job. They don’t look like molesters to me and they are taking in the cast-offs. So I hope this all works out for the children. I am anti-gay and anti-gay propaganda but these guys will do for now

Not if they are ‘disabled’ or ‘special needs.’

That keep up with assistance until they are grown.

Not exactly. If they are classified as "special needs" kids, the rules are different. Free medical care for example. And more. I don't know the details but a SIL adopted her foster kids and for several benefits of some kind continued. And since her husband was 55 when they did it, they've been collecting SS for each kid for YEARS. They've done all right by the kids, but they have collected a veritable fortune from the government along way.

Yeah, loving family is a blessing, no matter how twisted. Sad as that is. Let’s just hope they aren’t molesters. Not all heterosexuals are, and I can’t believe ALL gays are. Lots, probably, but hopefully not all.

True. My guy and I are going to be doing adoption out of foster care soon, I am feeling the empty nest syndrome since my son went to college. We are looking for older kids or sibling groups.

To find one person with the intensity and energy to do this is rare. To find a couple of any kind who can do this is highly unlikely.

However, despite this media report, the reality will assert itself sooner or later. Let us all hope that it is not sad or even tragic for the children.

I'm willing say good for them, but I'm biased from a prior experience. When I was bussboying at a local restaurant there was a cook there that took foster kids. She specialized in the problem ones. She was one tough old bull dike and she straightened them out. The kids she had helped adored her and were always stopping by to see her. This was back before gay was cool and I suspect she had had a pretty rough time growing up and had a lot of empathy for the problem kids. Maybe a rare example, but she sure had my respect.

Sex perverts of an older American era at least tended to give lip service to conventional morality in spite of their personal vices. The top of Pandora’s box is now not only blown off but lies in smithereens.

Jerry Sandusky, the homosexual coach at Penn State adopted his son as a baby and did not molest him until after 10 years. The same thing can happen with these two queers. Why would society want to take a chance giving children to sexual degenerates. By definition, they are already abnormal. Better to keep the kids with straight foster parents.
