One photographer has captured her pregnant friends - and complete strangers - asleep in their homes for 'Waiting', a project exploring growing families. 'A couple of years ago, I suddenly noticed that almost all my friends were about to become mothers and father,' says Jana Romanova, 29, from St Petersburg, Russia. 'I wasn't really ready for this unexpected change in my life, because I couldn't imagine it without spontaneous travels and night talks about our amazing future,' she explains. Jana decided documenting the process might help her make sense of it.

Little too much skin for me, but I love the one of the couple on the twin bed. I knew a couple that slept that way for some 10+ years. They’ve been married well over 30 years by now; maybe they still do.

I was expecting them to throw in the token “gay” couple. But then I saw that these were Russians, which explains why there aren’t any.....They kinda frown on that kind of stuff.
Yep, there are some pictures that should not be taken...this is but a half dozen of those.
Does anyone else detect some narcissist thought here? This girl is noticing that many of her female friends are going to be mothers. She is unprepared for this change in her life. The change is not that she herself is becoming a mother, but that her friends being mothers will put an end to carefree single young adult late night time together with her friends.
And she wants to take photos to document this, and to make sense out of all of it.
A process which has been going on from the beginning of time, namely marriage and starting families, has thrown this girl off balance. She really has no understanding of any of this??? I am really confused at her reaction to the disruption in her life caused by her friends becoming mothers.
I live in California and it’s nice to see one man, one woman and no gays!
I don’t see anything artistic about the majority of these photos. In most you cannot even tell the woman is pregnant. And, they’re a bunch of slobs for the most part.
I don’t know what’s creepier...that a photographer would shoot these, or that people would pose for them. (Or that there are people who would look at them and declare them “art.”)

Looks like those beds are all either 1) mattresses on the floor, pull-out sofa beds, or twin beds.
And rather than dedicated bedrooms, the beds all look like they are in a general room such as a living room.

The lousy conditions are part of what happens when one lives in a communist country I suppose. No money for a decent place. The messiness may also be another aspect of it in some cases, ingrained in your mind is the thought that “the government will take care of it”. What I find interesting is that amidst the poor conditions, they still are bringing a child into the world. (Just like people do all around the world, and in worse conditions than this.) And in doing so, they say “I have hope.”
That, or they’re just stupid.
Don’t people want to keep anything private anymore?
