Club for Growth sticks by Ted Cruz on Obamacare, will score cloture vote
Wash Post ^ | 9/24/13 | Sean Sullivan

The Club For Growth stood with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) Tuesday, calling for senators to vote against cloture on a stopgap spending bill that passed the House last week. The conservative, anti-tax group said it would it include the vote on its 2013 scorecard.

"To keep the House defund language secure, and to continue using the leverage of the continuing resolution, opponents of ObamaCare should vote "NO" on the cloture vote to end debate," wrote the group's vice president of government affairs Andy Roth in a note to congressional offices.

Just need 41 Senators to throw this back in Reids face.
That Better happen here and now.

Dont expect Bohner to be the hero. That would be fantasy.

Which begs this question...

Is this a normal "Cloture" vote, or with all the explanations going on, I am confused as to did Reid wave the 60 vote threshold on this one? If he did that is the "nuclear" option.

What galls me is we don't have enough testicular fortitude to muster 41 Republicans to stick it to Reid and Obama and get them to send it back to the House and Maybe just Maybe bring Obama to the table and make him make concessions and maybe even change Obamacare with free-market alternatives.

I can see this and our leadership can't?

If they can't, it is way beyond the time to get new leadership, it is time for McConnell to go...

From what I heard a first vote is today at 1 pm and sometime this weekend there will be a single 60 Senator threshold vote on letting the House CR procede, then Reid modifies it and passes that with 51 and sends back to house where, dont get your hopes up. Bohner will be rushing to get a deal before Tuesday.

Not getting the 41 would be a failure but even worse is if the GOP gets nothing out of this, no one year delay, no taking away congresses subsity, nothing. It would be like the re-passage of the VAWA.

That would be a clear disaster.

We do need new, more inspiring leadership, but unless we are able to increase troop strength at the same time, nothing will change. Cruz is attempting to stir up grass roots support which will hopefully carry over to the midterm. Obama was able to shove this through without a single republican vote. The democrats don't have any need to make concessions at this point because the voters blindly handed them numerical control.

So let me get this straight, he he doesn't get 60 it is dead, or if he doesn't he then modifies it to 51? What a Weasel if he does...

God Help Us.

What bothers me more is McConnell is not standing and saying NO. Especially after all the crappy bills they sent Reagan that he had no choice but to sign, and what that ( can't type it ) George Mitchell did and hoodwinked Bush the Elder.

It is time to say no to this crap and hand them a Merde' sandwich for a change, bring them to the the table, make them negotiate instead of folding.

The likes of McConnell, Lamar and McCain Have abandoned us and they don't see it...

RE “What galls me is we don't have enough testicular fortitude to muster 41 Republicans....”

As dumb as Pelosi sounds she rarely had trouble mustering the votes she needed to pass stuff in house.

She knows how to lead her team and they trust her because she (as Speaker) got results.

Even 2007 to 2008 when Bush was POTUS and Senate was about even she ruled her House members very effectively as House Speaker looking toward the big picture, that big picture was 2010 passing Obama-care with the super majority.

We need a few R leaders who can do that.

I am no expert but if Reid doesnt get the first 60 the CR dies, then know-one knows what will happen.
Cruz idea is that Reid comes to him and they agree to have a simple majority on any mods to the House passed CR. Then ideally the Senate passes the House version CR and it goes to Obama and he is forced to veto it and we blame him for shutdown. (few here seem to believe any of this will happen)

If Reid gets that 60 then we still dont know what will happen either, but its easy to assume that Bohner puts Reids version up for a vote and we get nothing as it passes with Dem votes.

Things that make this an uphill battle :

1) A shutdown doesnt defund Obama-care, Reid must pass a bill and Obama must sign it to do that. And why would they do that? Only if they are blamed for a shutdown.
2) To even kill a CR in Senate with only 41 the GOP needs to kill the house passed CR that defunds Obama-care, that they praised. Suddenly black and white looks grey and all in GOP are claiming they are defunding Obama-care.
3) Many in GOP house and Senate will do almost anything to avoid being blamed for a shutdown.

I think this is why pessimism runs high here.

Good. This vote really is a Rubicon where conservative bona fides are concerned. Congrats to Cruz for at least drawing out the RINOs—if it accomplishes no more than this it was worth it.

A case in point would be Rubio: after the amnesty debacle I wondered if he had been fully coopted by McCain et. al. At least I know there’s some hope there.

Yes on cloture = Yes to ObamaCare

Right, and I'm glad this is being scored. Now we'll see who the ones with principles are.
