Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, rose to speak on the Senate floor at 2:41 p.m. on Tuesday. He stood up in opposition to Obamacare, he said. And he said he would continue to speak until he could no longer stand. By Wednesday morning, Cruz and some of his colleagues were still standing.

Wait! What? What are you saying?
Welcome to FR newbie. It's always good to start your tenure on a conservative site bashing one of the Senate's few conservatives. And, you are entirely wrong about what can be accomplished. First, you seem to have missed that funding bills must start in the House of Representatives.
Perhaps Cruz gave the House the wherewithal to reject any changes made by the Senate and to send them back a similar bill.
After all, why do you think it's right for the Senate to say "my way or the highway" but not right for the House to do the same thing?

Not sure how it was a waste of money. However, it was absolutely NOT a waste of time. It was a rallying cry and a roadmap for the TEA Party. We now know which RINOS have to go.
doesn’t matter what state you are from Cruz is protecting ALL of us from the NO AFFORDABLE CARE ACT!
Google him and you will find other cities where he has offices, they are polite and love to hear from you.
“Lets defund congressional salaries and go from there.”
Well golly, captain, it seems like you don’t have a fuc*ing clue how that’s going to be done seeing that you saw this as a waste of time. Like what magic dust are you going to pull out of your ass to get that through Congress?
Unfortunately, I pretty much have to agree with you. It’s funny, people here assume I’m a RINO or whatever...they make their little remarks.
I’m not a RINO by any stretch. I’m a Realist. And this was all for show. I’m not young. I’m not new. New to posting? Yes. But not in reading this site.
If you all think anything will ever change in D.C. - you’re living a dream. The machine is way too big.
Then again, maybe I’m just too jaded in my old age.
Thanks for the welcome.
First, I didn’t bash Cruz. I like him. I criticized his methods because I think they’ll do absolutely no good.
We’ll see if I’m wrong. But it’s my feeling that they’ll make some sort of “concession” - they’ll fund Obamacare, pass a budget and do it all likely without a shutdown. Then it’ll be on to the next 800 pound Gorilla in the room, the debt ceiling.
Yawn.
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
Why is it, that anytime anyone dares (yes dares!) to speak their mind around here and express a thought that isn’t the same as majority, they’re called names and cursed at??
It hardly rises to the level of decency let alone honest debate and discussion.
So instead of cursing and calling names, why don’t you tell me what you think is going to come of this? Make a prediction....
Nice.
Ok, so then what DO you think? What’s your suggestion? Solution? Proposal?
I love standing on principle. But sooner or later you have to $hit or get off the pot and actually DO something PRACTICAL. Pragmatic.
What’s that going to be?
Like what? You mean like force the sequester and actually cut funding to federal programs for the first time in a generation?
You mean like stare down Obama on foreign policy (which to him is simply a continuation of campaigning by other means) and expose him for the lying gutless fraud that all the world now knows that he is?
You mean like actually forcing a meaningful vote on federal health care that compels not only Democrats but Republicans and fake conservatives like you to take a stand?
Practical, meaningful steps like that? Or would you actually prefer brilliant suggestions like "defund their salaries"? Or maybe just waddling down the office hallways with your hair uncombed and your shoelaces untied, the great gray "jaded" business genius just too tired and weary and much too much smarter than anyone else really to take any of it seriously anyhow...
"I am the wind" indeed...you are the sound (and smell) of someone breaking wind you sour old gasbag.
Because your comment made no sense.
You called this a waste of time and money, then advocated we somehow “defund” their salaries.
Now what do you expect people here that are taking time out of their lives to stop this thing to do with that? Some guy telling them dont bother, let’s instead not pay them....and then no outline of how tha’s even possible.
As to what will come of what is going on now? Who knows. But it is a plan that puts our position on the table, shows we arent going to roll over, exposes those that are working with the Democrats, puts something out there for us to rally around and push for, and gives us a chance (((A CHANCE))) to stop this.
Predictions are for beltway talker losers. Something is happening now. Someone is taking action not just sitting and talking and shaking their fists at a computer screen.
What’s your plan? Nothing...wait for the next election? Hope for the best. Dont make noise now? What good is that going to do?
Fine, at least this is courteous discussion. And yes, you’re right. After reading my original post, I agree. I said what I said out of frustration. Just like everyone else here. Of course I know we can’t defund their salaries. (I wish it were that easy)
It’s just frustration with the same old same old. But thanks, seriously, for engaging. I can take the flames. I’ve seen much worse.
And yes, I suppose we have a chance.
Then again, maybe Im just too jaded in my old age.
You seem to have the EXACT same mental dissorder that you seem to complain about regarding our ruling politicians. That is "We can't win. This is a waste of time. What do I need to do to be liked by the media? I hope I get re-elected."
Given your defeatist attitude on this issue at this time, what would you hope our politicians do to save us? What have you done to let them know? You and I dissagree that Cruze's actions was a waste of time. Hopefully, he has opened some eyes and will motivate the citizens of this country to take action.
I get what you’re saying. And no, I don’t think I have a defeatist attitude. But I am against doing the same thing over and over and over with no different outcome. There’s that saying about insanity....
I would hope for some SERIOUS collaboration for a change. And yes, I have called my pathetic Senators (they’re both Dems though) and my Congressman.
I guess we’ll see how it plays out.
I notice the National Journal has wimped out and will not accept comments.
I guess we are all a bit tense right now. And you are right that we have to at least be courteous to each other.
I do....I have....and I will.
We are all sick of it but yet we fight on. We need the Senate full of people like Cruz who will fight. Ignore the whiners and lightweights who say this was a waste of time.
Any time spent by a politician that is NOT spent fighting for our conservative principles is a waste of time.
And ironically, if the Senate were full of people like Cruz, there would be no reason to fight!
