As I understand it, Rand Paul is for technically securing the border...

Yep, and has also said that there should be no blanket amnesty.

Yes, I know what others have said he said, but again... That doesn't match his voting record nor his actual statements on the issue.

Politico isn’t exactly an unbiased source, however, looking at what Rand actually said... Close the border first.

He even went into this stance at length on Hannity’s show and in other interviews. That we need to stop the leaks before we worry about how to bail out the boat.

And he’s dead right.

Nor does he support giving a blanket amnesty. “Send them to the back of the line” to get legal using the current immigration laws in place.

Well... Duh. That’s what most of us have been advocating since the Clinton years.

The only people to be blamed are those who passed Obamacare and keep voting to fund it and attack those who attack ObamaCare.

You already told me that you knew that Cruz cant win in defunding

I said Ted Cruz had already won. He wins by standing up against ObamaCare, he wins standing up against it even when his own cowardly, turn-coated party hides under their desks. Ted Cruz wins by showing everyone just who is a traitor to their constituents, those who pretend to be conservative and spend their time in office attacking conservatism. There is a civil war in the Republican Party and one side goes to Harry Reid to ask permission to talk, the other side is conservative.

Ron Paul may be many things, but being a fraud is not one of them.

>> Rand isn’t Ron despite your attempt at equivocation. <<

Yeah, he's "nothing like his father", even though Rand's fan club still can't cite a single major issue where Rand has vocally disagreed with dear old dad.

The reality is that their ideology is 99% alike, it's just the "tone" that's different. Ron goes on crazy wild eyed rants to fire up his cultists, whereas Rand talks about issues where there's wide consensus on, and presents himself as a mainstream Republican.

For many years, Jesse Jackson Jr. was far less polarizing than Sr. for the same reason. Then his true colors were shown.

Rand is trying to present an image that he is serious compared to Ron-Dad who was happy being that crazy cult hero libertarian.

Per this threads comments by him I had to think about why Rand would go out on a limb and depart from Ted (against a shutdown to make Reid Obama cave) when he knows how much grief it can bring him with talk radio audiences(and here)

Most likely:
1) He wants to run for POTUS, and he figures he’d never get the nomination if he trashes the majority of GOP senators.

2) He wants to be able to get GOP Senators to side with him in 2015 if GOP takes Senate back and he thinks getting them to hate him will keep that from happening.

Just my guess, these wont go well here, so Rand is with Ted, but then he is not exactly with Ted on positions

Does that mean they have to leave the country first? They're not following the immigration laws in place if they come here illegally and then apply for legal status. The only fair solution is that they leave before the apply, pay some kind of fine or penalty for having broken the law in the first place, go to the back of the line, and only come back when they have the proper papers.

Rand and Ted agree on far more than say McCain and Cruz...

Rand and Ted are right on a lot ofstuff. We need more like both of them and less McConnells, Grahams, McCains, Ect...

We share the same tastes in movies.

IIRC, Burt Lancaster was another lefty, like Issur Danielovitch.

I would have liked to been on set to hear the political banter between John Wayne and Issur Danielovitch - must have been great stuff!
