The terrorist attack at a shopping mall in Kenya is prompting increased security at the Mall of America. The facility sent out a statement stating..."Mall of America continues to monitor the tragic events unfolding in Kenya with the help of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
We are deeply saddened by the events and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.
Mall of America has implemented extra security precautions, some may be noticeable to guests, and others won't be.
We will continue to follow the situation, along with law enforcement, and will remain vigilant as we always do in similar situations.
The safety and security of our guests, employees and tenants remains our top priority."
While the River Hills Mall in Mankato did not want to comment on their security procedures, they did say they have taken additional steps in light of the attack in Kenya.

I have been there, too. My sister lives in Minneapolis.
She never goes there by herself. People just plain disappear there, plus wallets and purses.
It is my understanding that a "no firearms permitted" sign carries the exact same weight as does a "no outside food permitted" sign.
If you get caught violating the rule, the most they can do is ask you to leave. Big f'n deal. But if you refuse to leave, then they can have you arrested for trespass.
A "no firearms permitted" sign at a public facility like a post office, jail, airport, etc. is serious business. Stay away if you are carrying.

That is a great question. Awhile back I attended a seminar given by an NRA lawyer. He covered a lot of firearms-related law. But no one asked that question.
But I will pass along something he did say. Don't even consider carrying in NYC, Baltimore, or DC. Don't even consider transporting a firearm in NYC, Baltimore, or DC.
They will throw you in jail even if you complied with every last regulation. The judges there just don't care.
But of course who would want to go to NYC, Baltimore, or DC in the first place?
I doubt any mall security will ever be beefed up enough to defeat ten or more well armed terrorists, as was the case in Kenya. Such will have to be handled by large groups of policemen or military personnel if such attacks ever happen in the US.
All sorts of immigration and refugee policies have allowed many potential terrorists to settle in the US and we’re mostly left to hope nothing on the Kenya scale happens.
Visited the Mall one month ago. Saw plenty of young, Somali men on street corners blocks from the Mall.
I read that the terrorists in Kenya had been renting space in the mall for three months prior to the attack. That’s a lot of time to fill the store up with serious firepower.
I will remember that. I have friends in VA but can’t get there with my firearm. Traveling as female without protection is limited. It isn’t right that we have to be sitting ducks.
If you are going to carry when you travel, be very sure that the state you're in has a reciprocity agreement with the state that issued your permit.
And consider getting a Utah and/or an Arizona permit. Those permits are widely recognized, and you don't have to be a resident to get one. You just have to attend an approved class. Google "Legal Heat" for details.
If you are going to transport a firearm when you travel, be very sure that the firearm is in a LOCKED hard case, and that it's separate from any ammunition. Furthermore, both the firearm(s) and the ammunition must be out of your reach. So put them in the trunk if you are driving.
As I mentioned before, none of this matters in DC, Baltimore, or NYC. You go to jail no matter what.

I’m trying not be paranoid, but in my tiny town, a place where everybody knows everybody, we’ve noticed some muslim-type people driving around in very nice cars. We don’t know who they are or why they are here. If I see them again, I’m tempted to follow them around, see what they’re up to. They’ve been here a couple days, and they exhibit odd behavior. Driving slow, looking at buildings. One would think they were lost, but after two days? And we have nothing special here for historical markers or anything.
I’d report them, but then I’d be accused of being racist or paranoid by the PC cops we have here.
Mall of America is almost the only shopping mall in Minnesota that is posted “no guns”.
Not in Texas, at least if it complies with the legal requirements. However, a compliant sign has to be about 2 feet by 3 feet, with specific language.

You can be. It’s up to the officer. However, the sign constitutes binding notice.
There is no legal requirement for an additional warning, verbal or otherwise. There is also no requirement to give you an opportunity to leave the premises.
It is a specific provision of the law prohibiting criminal trespass. So, it has teeth. We take private property rights seriously.
