No compromise: Government on brink of a shutdown?

Moving closer to the brink of a government shutdown, House Republicans vowed Thursday they won't simply accept the stopgap legislation that is likely to remain after Senate Democrats strip away a plan to dismantle President Barack Obama's health care law.

A sense of confusion settled over the House, both over how to avoid a shutdown and how to handle even more important legislation to increase the government's borrowing ability to avert a default on U.S. obligations. Short of votes, House leaders shelved a vote that had been expected this weekend on the debt limit measure and gave frustrated GOP lawmakers few clues about what they plan to do to avoid a shutdown.

The chaos sets the stage for weekend drama on Capitol Hill, with the Senate planning to send the fractious House a straightforward bill Friday to keep the government operating through Nov. 15 rather than partly closing down at midnight Monday.

Speaker John Boehner of Ohio and several rank-and-file Republicans said the House simply won't accept a "clean" spending measure, even though that's been the norm in Congress on dozens of occasions since the 1995-96 government closures that bruised Republicans and strengthened the hand of Democratic President Bill Clinton.

"I don't see that happening," Boehner said. Still, he declared that "I have no interest in a government shutdown" and he doesn't expect one to occur on Tuesday.

Shut down the DoEs, BATFE, EPA, IRS, AF1, all gov’t owned golf courses, HUD, Food Stamps, and of course gov’t “exchanges”.

When a bunch of house democrats start voting with the republicans, then it might be okay for some senate republicans to vote with the democrats.

Absolutely. But check this out.

Levin speculated late last week that, based upon Zero’s talking points of that week, that Zero is planning on unilaterally lifting the debt ceiling.

I wouldn’t put it past him. But then what? Will the Collaborators finally stand up?

The Repubs need to get their sh!t together and start applying the screws.

Pass a CR that expires at 2 a.m. the day after the first, and submit the budget bill sans Obamacare.

The next day, do it again, and again, and again. Make life seriously inconvenient for everyone in Washington.

This is what I think Zero will do as well. He’s going to lift the debt limit and ignore Congress. Obama have broke so many laws now and Congress do nothing

The No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, Dick Durbin of Illinois, said that because of the time it takes the Senate to approve even non-controversial bills, if the House amends a Senate-passed spending bill and returns it to the Senate over the weekend, "That is a concession on their part that we're going to shut down the government."

There it is there. It is also a concession on the part of the senate leaders that they are shutting down the government if they don't get their way.

I don't think the Marxists have enough control of the media to lay this at the feet of the Republicans. The Marxists have been pushing us around for years. It's time we stand up to these turkeys.

Pass a Continuing Resolution for each Department, Office, Agency, and Program, one at a time. E.g.: a Continuing Resolution for the Dept. of Defense, but not one for the Department of HUD; a CR for the VA, but not for the Dept of Homeland Security; and so on.

At times in past government shut downs, the list included:

EPA (YEAH) (with a core group for emergencies)
U.S. landmarks
Department of Defense - Military and civilian pay delayed.
Passport offices closed
P.O. Open
Weather alerts stayed open
Social Security open because P.O. is open to deliver

If he does lift the debt limit, does he need the approval of Congress to incur new debt?

I love these stories in the press like this, not one of them ever asks a pertinent question like: How does Enslaving our children and grandchildren in PERPETUAL DEBT to PAY FOR OUR WANTS TODAY help them??
