Ted Cruz Tells Rush Limbaugh Reporters Behave Like 'Hollywood Gossip Columnists'
newsbusters.org ^ | 9-26-2013 | Randy Hall

Soon after completing his 21-hour filibuster on the Senate floor calling for Congress to defund ObamaCare, Sen. Ted Cruz told Rush Limbaugh on the Wednesday edition of the conservative icon's radio talk show that he had “all but begged” reporters to devote half of what they wrote about his marathon speech to the substance of ObamaCare.

The Texas Republican said that instead of stating that the program “is the number-one job killer in the country, how millions of Americans are suffering, how it's forcing people into part-time work, how it's threatening millions of Americans' health insurance,” members of the press behaved like “Hollywood gossip columnists” and concentrated on “bickering” within the GOP.

"What is utterly maddening about all of these reporters is what do they write about all day long?" Cruz asked. "They write about the process. They write about the horse race. They write about this personality or the other."

I mean, how many times have you and I both read the words "Republican civil war" in the past week? 'Cause that's what they like to write about.

Limbaugh then referred to reporters and columnists who had accused Cruz of putting on an act of “theater” since the Democratically controlled Senate and president of the same party are almost certain to continue funding the Affordable Care Act.

The GOP senator responded that the issue is “not about anybody. It's not about us. It is about listening to the American people and stopping this disaster, this nightmare, this train wreck that is ObamaCare."

Cruz then described “the strategy on the other side” as twofold. “Number one: Confuse the voters” with procedural obfuscation and complexity “so that they don't understand what's going on.”

Second, he noted, is to “make it all about personalities” even though most Americans "could not care less about any politician in Washington."

People ask, why does Congress have, you know, 10, 12, 15 percent approval rating? It's because for years, Congress has ignored the will of the American people.

Limbaugh then stated that Cruz has been accused of ignoring Senate rules and behaving as an “outsider” who doesn't consult the leaders of the GOP before taking action.

The Texan responded that in all the times he and his fellow Republicans in the chamber have met, not one alternative to ObamaCare was proposed.

Also, “each of the hundred senators, we were elected by our constituents, and I've got an obligation not to my colleagues, but to 26 million Texans to fight for them,” he noted.

Cruz then explained that on Friday or Saturday, the Senate will vote whether to close discussion on the measure. If Sen. Majority Leader Henry Reid gets 60 votes to do that, the Nevada Democrat will then file one amendment that will eliminate the House's attempt to defund the program if passed with 51 votes.

The GOP senator then called the final tally a “show vote” so all 46 Republicans can go home to their districts and say: “Gosh, I voted to defund ObamaCare, and marvel of marvels, we lost.”

Along those lines, Cruz said that the single biggest surprise he found after arriving in the Senate is “the defeatist attitude here.”

"I mean, we don't even talk about how to win a fight. Many of these are my friends, but they've been here a long time, and they're beaten down, and they don't believe we can win."

However, “the only reason we got to where we are is because the American people have risen up in incredible numbers,” he stated. “That is why the House voted last week to defund ObamaCare.”

But Cruz said reaching their ultimate goal will be difficult.

Unfortunately, there's an alliance between the Democrats, who certainly don't want to discuss the merits of ObamaCare because it is such an abysmal failure, and many of the Republicans who are scared of this fight. I mean, they're scared that it won't work and that Republicans will get blamed.

The Texas senator concluded the interview by encouraging the radio host and his listeners to sign up at the DontFundIt.com website, then “light up the phones to your senators all this week.”

Earlier in the program, Limbaugh responded to criticism of Ted Cruz “from his own party; the attempt to ruin him and mock him in his own party and from the so-called conservative media,” including himself and the Fox News Channel.

Cruz “doesn't need any advisers here,” the radio host stated. “He doesn't need any pressure. The man is not a coward. Ted Cruz isn't afraid of anybody.”

It's a man doing what he was elected to do, fighting for limited government, fighting for individual freedom and liberty, rolling back the biggest assault on individual freedom in our lifetimes outside the Soviet Union and foreign enemies -- and doing that, fighting for freedom, is said to be detrimental to the Republican Party, which used to be known as the party of limited government.

“Anyway, Cruz won't have any of it,” Limbaugh declared. “He's not talked out of it. He's not talked down from it. He's not intimidated.”

Obamacare must be fought at every turn even if you probably won't win the vote this time. Ted Cruz seems to understand that.

Whatever can be done to stop it must be done at every opportunity. AND Americans need to see you doing it! Most Americans only pay attention to politics every couple of days, if then. If people see you fighting they will believe in you! They will send you money and ask their friends to contribute to you, too! They will vote for you and tell their friends to vote for you as well.

But if all of your strategies involve waiting for things to fail instead of stopping them from happening in the first place - you are a RINO. If all you do is talk but then bail when push comes to shove - you are a RINO. If you can be counted on to choke on every vote that matters - you are a RINO.

That's the GOP of today: Fair-weather conservatives - which is to say, not really conservatives at all.

No kidding....CNN "reported" on Cruz reading Green Eggs and Ham to his daughters...that was pretty much it.

(And no, I do not watch CNN - we do not even have cable at home. However, the place where I work has large TV's in the kitchen areas. I turn it to FOX whenever I can (It used to be MSNBS all day long), but someone always changes it to CNN by lunchtime.

The problem with mainstream reporters is that most of them treat elections like horse races. They rarely if ever discuss the political and moral aspects of the issues. It drives me crazy even when conservative voices, Hannity etal, start doing the horse race thing. Of course the main problem with mainstream reporters is that being mostly liberals, they’re almost completely uninterested in discussing issues. They prefer to dwell on superficialities. Discussing issues would make the electorate slightly more able to fairly evaluate the candidates.

In many ways, these GOP-E RINOS are worse than demonic-rats, because they rarely, if ever, go after the demonic-rats, but seemingly have no trouble going after PATRIOT TED CRUZ!

IMHO, they can all go straight to Hell and take their demonic-rats cohorts with them.

“Obamacare must be fought at every turn ..”

Let’s keep calling, and get some family and friends to do the same.

Probably best to call in the morning.

My husband called in the morning, and got to talk with someone. I called in the afternoon and got an answering machine (but even that’s better than not getting through at all).

They rarely discuss issues...maybe because of money. Will people leave the TV on if real issues are discussed or only if they can hear about Cyrus. Does the majority of the American public have a TV star mentality? What about the high paid sports stars? Have any of the gossip newspapers gone under? Maybe someone should start a DC or political gossip paper and slip in an issue or two to educate them.

Do people even watch the news? I don’t, but I only get ABC. I can read faster than people talk.

I watched Ted Cruz during his valiant effort to halt the disaster called Obamacare. I hope you watched it as well. If he has used it once, he used the phrase “...we no longer listen to the people, our constituents...” over a hundred times. And he was right...they don’t. And the fact is, THEY NO LONGER NEED TO.

I’ve sent my little rant on this topic before but Ted’s honest comment compels me to do so again.

Dick Bachert
*************
WHY THE POLITICAL RULING CLASS NO LONGER LISTENS TO US!

Among others, Thomas Jefferson warned that the financial disaster we now face would be but one of many problems paper money would visit upon us if we allowed our “leaders” to remove the backing from the currency, to wit:

“When the servants of the people are paid with something other than that which the people themselves have produced (i.e. the real, tangible products of their labors or some fixed and real medium of that exchange), the roles of master and servant will be reversed.”

It was believed by Roger Sherman and a majority of those at the Constitutional Convention that un-backed currency would so damage the fabric of the nation that they ATTEMPTED to prohibit it with these few words at Article 1, Section 10, requiring the states to enforce the prohibition: “No State shall…make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts;”

If the people and their states grew inattentive to this matter (and they have!), Jefferson also saw this problem ahead:

In a letter to John Taylor in 1816, he wrote, “And I sincerely believe, with you, that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”

We have been “…swindling futurity…” for a long time and this is now where we find ourselves. If the government, through its banker masters at the Federal Reserve, can create “money” from thin air, they certainly don’t need ours every April 15th. That annual sheep shearing is simply an attempt to vacuum enough of the excess paper from the system to keep the rest of us from catching on to the biggest theft ring in the history of man. They have now created so much that their attempt is failing and failing badly to a point where all but the dullest among us (Obama voters and his growing cadres of personal and corporate welfare beneficiaries) are starting to “get it.”

If you understood that last paragraph, you can now make the small leap to an understanding as to why the “progressive” utopian welfare state hacks in Washington don’t give a damn WHAT you think. Their power to create all the “money” they need to fuel their infernal machine and fill the gaping maws of enough of those hoards of welfare constituents to assure their perpetual re-election means that — ready — THEY NO LONGER NEED YOU! They have become, as Mr. Jefferson predicted, our MASTERS.

That they are taking down a nation and a system that has provided more wealth, safety and abundance to more people than any other in history matters not to them. Failing to grasp the lesson of the French Revolution, they believe themselves to be above the impending disaster.

We’re running out of time to get this increasingly rapacious beast back into the cage from which we have carelessly allowed it to escape.

Well said. The Lame Stream Media acts as a information prison for the lawmakers. It is this media bias that has been at work for decades. It allows coverage of a very controlled set of information which isolates the lawmakers from the complete picture. This control enables the LSM to accomplish the agenda.

It is has long been an axiom of tv news presenters (and even most pols) that the average person has such a short attention span and/or limited interested in delving into issues that they automatically turn off most discussions of issues that start going too deep. Reagan was the last president I can remember who could get off an effective short speech/message inveighing against big government. Certainly, most “news” outlets refuse to go deep on any issue...unless it is some sort of demagogic plea for a liberal position. You’ve certainly never heard any lib talking head discuss the constitutionality of any issue like Obamacare. All to the negative for the average American.

And in not doing so, the GOP-E-RINOs will see the fruits of their lack of effort at the next election. I sincerely pray that the voters do not forget who fought against odumbocare and those who let it happen without firing a shot, then dump the ba$tards!
