Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday signed a bill that will temporarily require overtime pay for domestic workers in California, after he vetoed a broader measure last year that critics said would have opened the door for government regulation of part-time baby-sitting.
"Domestic workers are primarily women of color, many of them immigrants, and their work has not been respected in the past," the bill's author, Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano of San Francisco, said in a statement. "Now, they will be entitled to overtime, like just about every other California working person."

That will cost a few more jobs and cause some hours to be cut...gee..who woulda guessed?
It is truly a testament to the Democrat party what they chose to focus on, and what they chose not to avoid focusing on.
These people never learn.
And everyone but them pays the price.
OT?
How about 29 hours?
This is an statewide employment law for everyone, why do they have to make it sound like part of a race war?
I thought people who are on salary are not entitled to overtime pay.
I thought domestic workers are on salary, at least the live-in ones.
So if this stands, everyone on salary will be entitled to overtime pay?
Not to mention that domestic employment provides a way to earn a living for those who may not qualify for other jobs, but are decent and are willing to work.
Now people will think twice about hiring domestics.
what they often do is Ms. Hernandez watches the kids of Ms. Sanchez and vice-versa —this way they’re both “working” and can be paid.
They’ll even do it in the same room.
Really common scam.
We are PAYING Mexican moms to watch their own kids.
Maybe we’ll pay their men to pleasure themselves, or to watch TV?
***”Domestic workers are primarily women of color, many of them immigrants, and their work has not been respected in the past,”***
‘Their’ work hasn’t been respected? Well, Tommy, maybe that’s because these ‘immigrants’ disrespected Federal law and, by extension, the American citizen in the first place.
And CA unemployment rate is almost 9%:
California adds 29,100 jobs; state unemployment rate ticks up to 8.9%

Good point.
If you are salaried, there is no over time.
You are paid for working whether it takes one hour or seventy in a week.
It varies from state to state, and the Federal wage law also applies in many cases. Even on salary, some jobs are covered by the wage law and must be paid overtime when they exceed 40 hours, and there are some jobs considered "professional" to which the wage law is forbidden to apply.
The idea is that employers can't circumvent minimum wage by simply claiming people are "salaried" and them forcing them to work 50 or 60 hours a week.
‘Maybe well pay their men to pleasure themselves’
And to think that I have been doing that for years for nothing.
With overtime pay, I should be rich by now!
California, lol.
There are very strict rules as to what type of employee can be put on salary w/o overtime.
“temporarily?” Is that anything like those “temporary” taxes that are enacted?
Could say the Governor’s domestic get overtime for time spent servicing him?
The "women of color" will just get less hours.
If a carload of guys pulled up as Democratic Assemblyliar Tom Ammiano was walking out the door, and beat his teeth into the back of his lying face, I probably would nervously clap.
“Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano of San Francisco”
Ammiano is singlehandedly turning California into a broke sewer. He has introduced more radical “progressive” legislation than the rest of Sacramento combined.
