Democrats’ most loyal constituency is that of government dependents. Direct taxation is a hard sell. So they have to come up with wonderful sounding ideas to divert more money from the private sector to the public to keep fostering that dependency. They know that once you throw a bone to the masses, it’s nearly impossible to take it back.

What’s more wonderful sounding than “we’re going to fix it so that you get the best health care possible and you’re going to pay less for it than you do now”?

A majority of people bought the idea, despite warnings.

Democrats are team players, through and through, and enough Democrats on the fence were thrown a fig leaf for their votes. Most of those resigned (knowing they would lose) or were kicked out in 2010 and those that are left are sweating bullets over this, you can be sure.

The camel’s nose was let into the tent, so I personally think that it will be very difficult to repeal Obamacare in total. If Republicans keep the House and take the Senate, it will still be difficult to make changes for the next couple of years as Obama will veto any attempt to change it.

Unless...it is such a humongous train wreck that we have a wholesale revolt. If that’s the case, Obama’s hand may be forced because his party’s survival will depend on it.

The GOP will need the presidency, House and Senate to enact significant changes.

I have pondered, questioned, and quizzed this same topic for a week now. All I get back from the Senators is gobbledygook of course - and all I get from FReepers is sarcastic one-liners [albeit good ones] about 0bama and his band of losers... but never anything of substance. It seems that nobody really can answer this question.

The closest this article came was to assert that the Senators in question did not want to be seen as shutting it down. This is actually the most logical of the “explanations I’ve come across [with one very major problem though.]

If the Senate never gets to vote on the bill purely b/c of no cloture, then it would indeed be very clear that the Senate Rs did indeed prevent the senate from even voting to keep the gov open. This line of thought does not judge the value of such strategy - just makes it clear that the Senate Rs would be nailed for being responsible. Even I get that.

The major problem I have with resolving this as the major component of opposition is that despite my continual quest for information, this never came out. Not from the Senators I was able to ask, not from anyone.

Maybe it’s just that I understand the big picture better now - but just damn why didn’t the Senators just say this? That’s why I doubt it as a major force.

After all, if no cloture then when would Senators get to go on record in support or opposition to 0bamacare? They wouldn’t. But the gov’t would shut down unless the House soon followed up with separate component bills funding pieces. Everyone would vote on those and if they didn’t pass, THAT would be the D’s fault - and this should have been the strategy from the get-go.

And that should be the strategy now.

I heard an interesting Obamacare theory a few days ago that relates to the issue of Pre-Existing Conditions.

Obamacare requires that you pay a penalty if you fail to purchase health insurance through the Exchange System. That penalty is far less than the cost of health insurance.

Assume you are young and apparently healthy. You take the penalty and forget the insurance. But then, suddenly, you are diagnosed with cancer. It’s cureable but only if you can spend $250,000 over a few years for medical treatment.

What to do? What to do? Well, just buy a some health insurance at the same cost as anyone else. That’s the law. The insurance companies cannot charge a premium because of the pre-existing condition.

Will people game the system?

Will this lead to the slow but sure destruction of the Health Insurance industry?

Will this lead to a Marxist Single Payer Health Care System?

As a famous lady once told us: You Betcha.

——You take the penalty——

Actually, the Supreme Court ruled that you are paying a tax on not buying insurance

I think most of the comments here point toward the reason rats once again voted for Obamacare. Follow the money.

Not many of us put principle ahead of our livelihoods, and arrogant senators, drunk with power are rarely among such people.

Obama controls the DNC and DSCC.

Not a single senate rat voted against Obamacare because it would be political suicide to lose campaign funding support. Go along with Obama, and campaign funds will flow. Oppose Him and expect to be primaried.

To whom are senators accountable? The people of their states? As this week’s showdown over Obamacare funding illustrates, rat senators, who know that Obamacare is strangling our economy and destroying health services, will continue to support the man who controls the campaign funds that will get them reelected.

Isn’t democracy grand?

Since when have Rats cared about the damage they do? The fanatical left is so far detached from the reality of their actions, they might as well live on another planet, along with their RINO servants.

I got into the reason in #26, and add here:

The point is that separation of powers has been corrupted in a way I haven't read of anywhere else.

The executive exerts influence in the senate such that it does the president's will. We think of it as business as usual. The practice is a gross violation, and would be seen so by our framers. It gets no attention because so few of us understand the danger, and Obama has perpetrated other, more visible violations.

Thanks Jacquerie.
Earlier this past week, Senator Ted Cruz eloquently dissected Obamacare. In over twenty hours, and with the help of long dead but esteemed philosophers, he explicated its assault on our most cherished freedoms. He brought their theories home to the present, and itemized the effect Obamacare has had on employment, poverty, business growth, and religious freedom. Throw in the cries for exemptions by all categories of business and labor groups, and there is no doubt Obamacare is a canker on our society, whose cruel effects will grow exponentially. Like everyone else, rat senators know what Obamacare means.

Then let's hope they pour endless sums of money into losing campaigns because there are going to be many Obamacare supporting elected Democrats in red, purple, AND blue states who are going to have their feet held to the fire next year and ARE going to lose.

Should it really surprise me?

Coast2CoastAM had the topic last night called Alternative Media Special. The email that I received about it said...

‘Filling in for George, John B. Wells hosted a discussion on alternative media with a panel of guests appearing throughout the night. In the first hour, journalist Abby Martin detailed the trouble she got in for asking Senator Rand Paul about his endorsement of Mitt Romney. After the confrontation with Paul the Capitol police called her employer and threatened to have her arrested for stalking and harassment, Martin revealed. She said the experience taught her how things really work in D.C., noting how the political establishment and corporate media apparatus have created an environment there in which only vetted pre-approved appearances are allowed. “[The media] might as well be state run,” she chided.’

The more I learn about how DC is run the more justified I am in calling it the District of Criminals.
