US Senate Majority leader Harry Reid has warned that his Democratic-led chamber will reject a House Republican bill to avert a government shutdown.
The Senate passed its own bill to fund government until 15 November - ahead of the 1 October shutdown deadline.
But House Republicans are refusing to support the measure without a provision to remove funding from President Barack Obama's healthcare law.
Agencies are making contingency plans as the two parties remain deadlocked.
In a statement, Senator Reid said that "after weeks of futile political games from Republicans, we are still at square one".
He added that Republican efforts to pass the House bill - that would delay the healthcare law for a year and repeal a tax on medical devices - were pointless.

The dims already have their talking points....it is about time that we had a consistent message: "It is Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats that are voting to shut down government!"

Don't all funding bills have to start in the House? If so, what Reid and the Senate did was for OPTICS only.

I'm listening to the House floor debate now. The liberals are sounding like a broken record (and a little panicky). They still claim that insurance costs are going down with Obamacare ... seriously! ... can you believe it!? I don't think the folks at home who have lost 10 of their 40 hour work week, or have had their insurance costs triple, are buying into those phony media lines any more.

The question I have asked before, and have never had answered, is this: if the Affordable Care Act is such good policy, why did Congress go back after the fact and get an exemption for itself and for its staffers? When you have to do something like this, you are admitting that the policy is badly flawed.

Well, looks like shutdown is imminent.

Totally agree. The Founders did not envision government evolving into a "ruling class" of citizens with special considerations. As I recall ... "of the people, by the people, for the people" was the goal.

Right before Reid rejects this CR, the GOP should send over a bill that funds the military for the one year so Obama can't use them as hostages.

In a statement, Senator Reid said that "after weeks of futile political games from Republicans, we are still at square one"Where is the weepy unich Boner's statement refuting dirty Harry Reed? More than likely he's in a fetal position under his desk, sucking down a fifth of scotch.
Useless POS.

Been here, done that. We’ll pass a bill... it will go to the Senate (who won’t look at it until Monday). Then they’ll strip the parts they don’t like and send it back to the House by Tuesday. That means we’ll just cave again to keep from being blamed for shutting it down. We did the same thing last time. ITs getting old.

Republicans should learn basic Marketing. They should be branding this “the Reid Shutdown”, making the association with Harry Read as clear as Obama is with Obamacare.
