Lindsey Graham’s Tortured “Opposition” To Obamacare
fitsnews.com ^ | 9/30/12 | fitsnews

Posted on 09/30/2013 7:27:39 AM PDT by cotton1706

To hear U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham tell it, he’s a leader in the fight to defund Barack Obama’s socialized medicine law.

No really … that’s what he’s telling people.

“I proudly voted to defund Obamacare, and I am proud that every Senate Republican has united in support of the House-passed defund Obamacare provision,” Graham said over the weekend. “I only wish that more Senate Democrats, many of whom were responsible for Obamacare’s passage into law, would have voted with us.”

Hmmmm …

“I fought and voted against Obamacare in 2010,” Graham added. “Since then, I have tried to stop the law’s implementation any way I can.”

Any way, that is, except actually stopping its implementation – which Graham could have done had he (and 24 other “Republican” Senators) stood firm with fiscal conservatives like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and South Carolina’s own Tim Scott.

But he didn’t.

Instead Graham voted (again) with the liberal wing of the GOP on a key procedural vote – permitting Democratic leader Harry Reid to advance a budget resolution which included funding for Obamacare (setting the stage for a partial government shutdown). Sure, Graham and his fellow “Republicans in Name Only” flip-flopped moments later and voted against the very bill they permitted to move forward – but by then the damage was done.

This “D.C. rope-a-dope” is old hat for Graham – who frequently proclaims his opposition to liberal Obama policies only to willingly move them through the Senate on critical procedural votes.

You know … when he isn’t supporting these liberal Obama policies openly (here, here and here).

Fiscal conservatives have seen this “rope-a-dope” before – and aren’t buying it.

Graham and his fellow RINOs “have effectively allowed Obama, Reid, and (Nancy) Pelosi to move forward with their train wreck of a plan,” said Nathan Mehrens of Americans for Limited Government, one of the groups which successfully pushed the U.S. House to hold firm on defunding this increasingly unpopular law.

“In doing so, they can no longer claim that they are willing to do anything it takes to stop Obamacare,” Mehrens added.

He’s right … but that’s not stopping Graham from making the claim anyway.

“Clearly, Graham thinks you’re either so dumb that you won’t notice what he did, or he thinks you’re just too stupid to understand it,” writes columnist Robert Laurie. “There’s simply no other explanation for the shameless, bald-faced, crock of manure he’s been shoveling.”

Speaking of shoveling, Graham is unloading some of his $6.3 million war chest on a television spot in South Carolina that portrays him as an ardent opponent of Obamacare.

“So many of the talkers and bloggers are putting out so much misinformation about Lindsey’s record on Obamacare, we wanted to set the record straight,” Graham’s consultant Richard Quinn told FITS. “Lindsey Graham voted with House conservatives to defund Obamacare and he has been a conservative warrior against Obamacare from day one.”

Hmmm-kay.

Graham isn’t the only prominent South Carolina politician to waffle on Obamacare. S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley kicked off her 2014 gubernatorial campaign in the Palmetto State railing against the measure – but within the week a spokesman made clear she did not support the U.S. House plan to actually strip it from the budget.

With the exception of this website, Haley has yet to be called out for her hypocrisy …

Will Graham’s effort to redefine his position on Obamacare encounter similar success?

We’ll have to wait and see, but as we’ve noted on numerous prior occasions no one has ever lost an election in South Carolina by underestimating the intelligence of its people.

Yeah, they’re probably shocked at the level of vitriol. They shut their phones off but we WILL be heard.

Is there a real chance to defeat him in his next election cycle? What are the people of SC thinking of him these days? Are his polls numbers going down or are they as clueless as always about this man?

Tortured?

lol

Yeah, right. He would have no problem voting the same way McCain did, except that he is up for reelection and is seeing some serious opposition.

The same could be said about another half-dozen or so Senators who are up for reelection.

They lean conservative when facing tough elections — but they revert back the morning after — if they win.

Recent Clemson Poll show only 31% of SC Republican voters would vote for Graham in the 2014 primary.

I worked for this POS in the past, he shook my hand and looked me straight in the eye and said he would never again support amnesty.

I now proudly display a “DUMP GRAHAM” sticker on my truck

This is the problem, these incumbents have these huge war chests. They should not be permitted to use those funds in a primary. They should only be used in the general. That’s how McCain got rid of his primary challenger. He knew he had no problem in the general because democrats love him.

That’s the problem. They voted. Purely symbolic. No meaning. No effort.

What have they DONE? Nothing.

Obama’s phone call to the Iranian talking head is just another distraction to keep Congress from defunding Obamacare.

As usual, the 24/7 Media falls for it hook-line-and-sinker.

On the list of future distractions from defunding Obamacare are meetings with various Heads of State in DC and China.

Obama has found it very easy to advance his narrow ideological agenda of failure-prone Marxism.

4 years after Obama conned his Democrats into passing the Federal takeover of the cash cow of Medical Insurance, the PC, Doormat Republicans are finally timidly suggesting defunding that Federal takeover.

Without the weak, PC, Doormat Republicans Boehner and McConnell being stupidly kept in their respective leadership positions by truly cowardly House and Senate Members, Obama Medical Insurance “Care” Takeover would have been defunded long ago.

The primal yearning of the 47 % who pay no personal Federal Income tax is to belong to a tribe where all of their choices are dictated to them by their arrogant tribal leader.

This a common trait of those who have low self-esteem.

In that sense, Obamanation is truly a cult: low self-esteem people believing everything their cult leader tells them, no questions asked.

Freedom is defined in the dictionary as follows:
1.) Exemption or liberation from slavery or imprisonment.
3.) Liberty of choice or action.

Most of the 47 % riding in the “free” wagon seek out slavery, and lack of personal choice.

They thus feel safe, and secure in the knowledge that “this is as bad as it is going to get.”

Liberty is defined in the dictionary as follows:
1.) The state of being exempt from the domination of others or from restricting circumstances; freedom.
5.) The power of voluntary choice: freedom from necessity.
6.) Individual Liberty: Freedom from restraint in the performance of rights outside of government control.

Most people who are getting a free ride in the wagon where 47 % pay no personal Federal Income Taxes, are terrified of making a voluntary choice.

The 47 % would prefer that they be under government control where the choices are made for him.

All of this societal wussiness has made it very easy for B. Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetoro, to advance his narrow ideological agenda of European-style, failure-prone, Marxism in spite of PC, Doormat Republican token “opposition.”

BTW, unlike taxes, Federal Obama ‘care’ Insurance charges can be increased EVERY YEAR to whatever % the present and future arrogant leaders of Obamanation wants.

BTW, BTW, the free-loading 47 % will always vote for the Candidate for POTUS approved by Obamanation.
_________________________________

The question to be asked is: “If it is in the Nation’s best interest to shut down the Government, then why are there only TWO Federal Politicians, Obama and Reid, loudly advocating shutting down the US Federal Government?

Obama has MANY reasons to shutdown the Federal Government such as:

1.) A headline grabbing story that will distract attention from the Impeachable scandals of:

Benghazi Massacre Dereliction of Duty by Obama as CIC;
Obamacare Insurance managed by the corrupt IRS;
IRS harassment of political opponents of Obama;
Use of the NSA by Obama to spy on everybody in the USA;
etc, etc.

2.) The use of fear of a shutdown might help to protect defunding and eventual abolishment of Obama’s narrowly focused ideological agenda of an European-style, failure-prone, Marxist, monopoly of the US Medical Insurance Industry.

3.) Spreading fear and blame might also preserve Obama’s power to increase Obamacare Insurance premiums on an annual basis.

*This would be highly advantageous to Obama as the increase in mandatory insurance premiums would not be a tax, as the “unexpected market conditions” would be given as the reason for the increase.

*Also there would be no need to ask for the “Advice and Consent” of Congress, as the IRS would be in complete control of all income and medical records.

4.) The last reason is the most important for Obama, personally: America would at last no longer be a Nation where the Liberty to choose one’s own family destiny could ever exist again.

As for Reid, the best guess I have is that he wants a Government Monopoly of the Medical Insurance Industry. Well, to be fair, Reid calls for a “single payer” system.

My suspician is that multi-millionaire Reid, nearing Federal retirement, owns a lot of stock in some companies that are tied to a “single payer” system.

Maybe the NSA, or the IRS can find out for us?

I’m going to ask my US Senator from TEXAS, The Esteemed Senator John “To Hell with my voters” Cornyn to check on this for me - - - .

Damn with faint praise, assent with civil leer. That Shakespearean phrase seems to apply here, if only because of the strident and vociferous dismissal of the efforts of Ted Cruz and his “non-filibuster” long speech.

What Ted Cruz was trying to do was to rally the Republican minority to support cloture, which Lindsey Graham was not willing to do. So an actual path to at least trying to deflect the worst elements of Obamacare was dealt a severe setback.

The unwillingness to act assertively and with perspicuity is just the most recent demonstration of what has been a long-term dysfunctional behavior.

I don’t personally oppose Senator Graham over Obamacare. Unlike a lot of FReepers, I don’t consider his recent vote for cloture to be a big deal. That doesn’t make him a great guy. There are plenty of other reasons to oppose him, his support for immigration amnesty being just one of many.

So I’ll give you this one, Senator Graham. I believe you’ll vote against Obamacare even if you’re the 51st vote that actually kills it, but I don’t trust you one bit to do anything else substantial to reign in the government, control our borders, or fight moral decay in federal policy.

In a perfect world, it would be impossible to buy a US citizen’s vote.

Maybe we should get serious about that, make voter fraud a capital crime.
