ROME, Maine — Maine State Police say a man was shot to death in the town of Rome as he was attempting a home invasion.
Police said 44-year-old Christopher Dennison of Livermore Falls was wearing a ski mask and brass knuckles as he broke into a mobile home on Foss Hill Lane on Saturday night.
Police said the homeowner, 48-year-old Richard Duffy, shot Dennison after a brief altercation with him in the living room.
An autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's office showed Dennison died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Duffy and his teenage son were not hurt, and there was no indication that Duffy knew Dennison.

It looks like this guy spent some quality time at the range. It obviously paid off.

Having been sentenced to three years in Maine in the early 80s, I cannot think of one thing worth stealing from the typical mobile home there.
Exactly what I was thinking too...how desperate do you have to be to break into a mobile home?

I see this kind of comment often when someone kills an intruder in his home. Perhaps you can explain to me why one needs "range time" when the attacker is a couple feet away.
That is easy. I have received 25 straight years of on the job firearms training, with the Mini 14, 38 caliber revolver, Remington 870 12 gauge and 40 mm single and multiple launcher. I have never been in a gun fight, but my instructors, for 25 years, always said, in an emergency, you would be amazed at how badly you can miss, even at short range. This is what I was always told, in firearms training. They also said, that in an emergency, most people (not all) simply only react, not necessarily think, and you tend to revert back to your training. I hope that helps you gain more insight into it. The fact that the chump was hit numerous times, might indicate the guy had some training.

So, what you are really describing is “situational training,” not marksmanship. It has always been my understanding that marksmanship is something that is acquired during firing on a range. What you are talking about is being able to fire the gun accurately in a tense situation. They don’t seem to be the same to me.
Exactly. You can practice marksmanship on the range, but, as you say, the key, is to be able to fire accurately in a tense situation. As I said, I never had to fire my weapon in anger, but the instructors tried to train is in a way, that if we ever got into it, we would do exactly what we were trained to do, and fire the weapon, as you described.
